No one collects weird and wonderful stories like Bob Curran. You may have heard him on Coast to Coast AM, where he is a favorite with the radio show's millions of worldwide listeners. Be it werewolves, zombies, or fairie folk, if it has entered the human consciousness, Bob has heard about it and committed the tales to print. He has been a great help to me in my own work, and is a wealth of information. Dark Fairies tells of fairies you may have heard of, as well as plenty you have not heard of (and wouldnt like to get on the bad side of!). His writing style, as always, is clear and fascinating, as though he is telling you a spooky tale at fireside. A great handbook to have for writers like myself, or just to enjoy and experience chills...

A fascinating read for anyone excited by mythology 14 Aug. 2010
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Tinkerbell is not the iconic fairy of myth. "Dark Fairies" looks into the history of fairies, and their roots as evil tricksters who were out to deceive and bring people to their doom, and to be feared. Looking at their roots in folklore and fairy tales, Dr. Bob Curran discusses how they developed and how they spun into the family friendly fairy of today. "Dark Fairies" is a fascinating read for anyone excited by mythology.

Very Informative 21 May 2012

The amount of research Dr. Bob Curran puts into his books never ceases to amaze me, and Dark Fairies is no different. This book is absolutely packed full of information on the lore and history of the fae. He didn't just cover the basics on fairies, he covered it all. I had no idea whatsoever that the history of the fae was so incredibly vast and diverse.

In the book you learn about countless types of fae, where the belief in the fae originally came from and how it altered over time, the impact new religions had on fairy folklore, old beliefs and new, and much more.

If you want a complete guide on wicked fairies then I highly suggest picking this book up.

Another bonus to the book is the illustrations by Ian Daniels. His artwork is stunning and really makes the book visually appealing. I am a huge fan of his.

My only issue with the book was that it read like a text book at times. There were moments that dragged, but that's to be expected in a non-fiction book. Overall, I was highly impressed by the research and amount of information in Dark Fairies.

I really enjoy Bob Curran books and this one about bad fairies is no exception. I like his background of information and how he adds stories his books as well. I also like the illustrations that are found in Bob Curran's too.
