Review

"'Feehan has a knack for bringing vampiric Carpathians to vivid, virile life in her Dark Carpathian novels... Feehan creat[es] a romance that feels both destined and believable.' Publishers Weekly"

Product Description

Carpathians are an immortal race of beings with animal instincts and the ability to shape shift. Every Carpathian male is drawn to a life mate: a woman - Carpathian or human - able to provide the light to his darkness. Without her, the beast within slowly consumes the man until turning into a vampire is the only option.' Natalya Shonski is a vampire hunter, descended from a revered line of Carpathians known as the Dragonseekers and the most powerful mage in history. She hates and fears both vampires and Carpathians alike and has spent her life fighting them. Carpathian Vikirnoff van Schreider is dangerously close to turning vampire when he discovers Natalya and realises that she is his lifemate. But Natalya is unlike any other Carpathian he has ever known - dangerous in her own right, she refuses to let him fight her battles, and she infuriates him with her cheerful disregard of his demands. But a sinister, mysterious power is after Natalya, and Virkirnoff has to convince her not only to trust him with her heart, but with her life as well.

The first book I read of the Dark series, and it left me wanting more. I could not get enough of the Carpathian way of life, loved "Vik" and could have kicked Natalya for being so much of a pain! This was a good choice of book to set me up for the Dark series (which I am slowly collecting!).

Virkinoff is the dark and mysterious hunter, who is blinded by the colours and lights when seeing Natalya for the first time. After centuries of loneliness, and with the forever encroaching darkness on his tail, where could his lifemate be? Discovering Natalya, and keeping his cool (to a certain degree)this is a twisting, turning, forever heated story of two people, drawn together by means beyond their control, and leaves a wonderful opening for the next saga........Loved it - all the way!! Keep it up Christine!!

could do better 24 Aug 2006
Format:Paperback
If I was a teacher and this was an end of term report I would have to say could do better. The first book I ever read by Christine Feehan was Dark Gaurdian and as an introduction to vampire fiction it was great. I have since read all her Dark Series and enjoyed them all, some more than others. However unlike her other carpathian stories this tale doesn't seem to move with same pace, don't get me wrong I still read it in a day but I also answered the phone and washed the breakfast pots. This story wasn't as all engrossing as her others. I think this is because she's moving us around this very intricate and involved world that she has formulated to house her carpethians, and as she's introducing new elements I'm not keeping up in the same way. Of course if we the readers wish for her to continue to write about our favourite supernatural species I suppose we should give her a little room to manouver. I will continue to buy her books because even when her tales fail to come up to my high expectations of her they are still some of the best in the genre and she has made of me, a convert to the mighty vamp. Still loyalty aside only four stars.

Part Carpathian, part mage, and part human, Natalya is not your typical romance heroine. She can command a shadow warrior, kick some serious vampire butt, and still be endearing to the readers. She is a class act and one of Christine's best heroines of date. Matched with an old world Carpathian ancient this couple creates some serious chemistry. Together they must uncover the secrets of her past, protect the prince of the Carpathians and save a young woman from certain death. For those who follow the saga this book is a must read, many secrets are revealed and many questions answered. It also sets the stage for some important future events. Such as, who are the Dragons in the ice palace ?

More equal partners.. much more to my taste!!
I really, really liked this book.

I much prefer it when the 'heroine' is strong enough (in both emotion and ability) to hold her own. Read more
