Kirkus Reviews - "... a comforting read featuring a couple worth rooting for from their first dagger-point meeting."

The Daring Heart is a Best Romance IPPY Bronze Medal Winning Novel!

(Scotland, 1482)
To the scandalous Lord Julian Gray, marriage is a malady and nothing more.

How can a man even court a lass longer than a fortnight when there are so many pouting lips to kiss? Roaming the courts of Europe, Julian appears to spend his time drinking wine, wagering gold, and dandling willing lasses upon his knee. But no one knows the man behind the mask. No one knows that he is Le Marin--Europe's most daring and brazen spy.

But everything changes the night he finds a dagger pressed against his ribs and an alluring hazel-eyed minx in his bed.

Born into the Vindictam, the renowned Venetian family of assassins, Liselle dreams of the day she will be allowed to practice the family craft. And when she is sent to the Scottish court, her dream is finally realized. But is it an honor ... or a curse?

As the threat of civil war looms over Scotland, and the king's own brother conspires with the English to put himself on the Scottish throne, Julian can't help but be distracted by the mysterious Venetian beauty and her many secrets.
But will it be his undoing?

I am in the middle of this story of betrayal, war and confused love between a villain and a highlander. It's a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Hooked 27 Feb 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
What I really love about this book is that from page one I was hooked. Carmen Caine is an amazing author who writes amazing fiction that holds you hostage until you finish the book. If you love historical romance, you're going to love this book. Best of all, you don't have to have read the other books in the series. The books in the series can be read as standalone books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Witty, and A Good Read 18 April 2013
By lbh, texas - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Daring Heart." It's fun, witty, and full of skullduggery in and around a Scottish James Bond. One of the things I particularly like is Ms. Caine's ability to write excellent dialogue. It is witty and flows instead of being forced to almost tortured. As I did with waiting for "The Bedeviled Heart" after reading "The Kindling Heart" and the waiting for this one, "The Daring Heart," I shall be impatiently waiting for the next one, "The Loyal Heart." No pressure intended, of course, Ms. Caine. :D

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully different Scottish Historical 26 April 2013

I enjoyed this book very much. The h is an assassin and spy for a Venetian family and is tasked with finding one of their enemies. She meets the H in a very surprising way, she pretends to be married to him when he finds her in his bed and they are both discovered soon afterwards by her family. It's difficult to explain here so you'll have to read the book. After that they continue to keep bumping into each other along the their travels in Scotland. The H is also a spy but they don't share their agendas with each other. I love their interaction and bantering when they meet up. His name is Lord Julian Gray and he is a well known rake and he always refers to her as Lady Gray when they meet - it's cute. The book is clean and it was an entertaining read.

A well written, entertaining story that did a good job of distracting me from my stupid day. Who doesn't like a touch of romance mixed in with some historic characters?
