5.0 out of 5 stars The Courtesan Series continues! 10 April 2011
By D. Bess - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The Courtesan series continues and we get a big pay off with this one! I'm sorry that others picked this up expecting something else. I blame the packaging, which makes this seem like a typical Regency romance. Dain's Courtesan series is another animal altogether and it would have been so great if that was made apparent. The series is one long romp, with biting humor, tons of banter and a fascinating central character. This romance in this book is light and fun--I'll never look at the Declaration of Independence the same way! But the best part comes at the end, when we finally discover a huge chunk of Sophia Dalby's harrowing past. I thought the end of this book marked a new beginning for Sophia--one of my favorite characters ever--and I can't wait to discover more!

I do recommend that you start this series at the beginning--the cast of characters is large and threads of many stories flow through the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Witty and charming 9 Mar 2011
By ddonald - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I don't understand the contrary reviews for this book unless it is because it takes place in one day at one party. I once started watching a movie and realized that it was going to be about 5 particular people on a subway car for the entire feature. I almost turned it off because I didn't think I was going to like it...I gave it a chance and I loved it. It is the same for all of Claudia Dain PB's I have read and enjoyed.

Though this was not my favorite read, I took my time and read it slowly as not to miss any of the clever prose. My only problem with this book is that I was left bereft not knowing what happened to the other characters. This book is hysterically funny but you REALLY MUST READ ALL 5 BOOKS in the series to know all the characters(IT IS NOT A STAND ALONE!)and cannot be reviewed properly as such. The sadist part is that Ms Dain seemed to somehow finish the series with this book and I will be devastated if this is the case.

Sophia has her retribution but what of Ruan, Katherine and many other characters I fell in love with? If this is the last book then I also say it was not what I wanted or expected...but it is worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! 23 Mar 2011
By Lori Handeland - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have read all the Courtesan books and adored every one. Handsome lords, spunky ladies, incredibly witty dialogue. These are some of my favorite historicals, kept high on my keeper shelf. This book was as wonderful as all the previous entries.
