This book was poorly edited and typeset; with font changes occuring regularly throughout. The exercises frequently contained vocabulary that had not been previously encountered, which was very confusing. The entire book would benefit from being proof-read by someone with a good command of English.
Worst of all, the reader is encouraged to write in the textbook, making the entire book useless on a second reading.
I cannot identify a readership group for whom this would be a worthwhile purchase.

I'm a trilingual Afghan born in Europe, I am fluent in 3 languages but lack writing and reading abilities in one and that is Dari. This book helps a lot if you are a beginner in learning how to read and write in Dari and to learn phrases. I hope there will be an intermediate version of this for further advancement. Its probably so far the best language book in Dari for beginners.IT is unfortunate that there are not many out which are properly published and not just created on Word document as a supplement for a language text book.

Perfect workbook for beginner level Dari 10 Jan 2013
By Erin Gilmer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book has a little of everything: the Dari alphabet, vocabulary, basic sentences and grammar, writing, etc. As a student of Dari, I have used just about every book that exists for learning this beautiful language, and Dari As A Second Language stands out for its user-friendliness and comprehensive introduction to beginning Dari. Having lived and worked in Kabul, I also really like that this book teaches words and phrases that are actually useful in everyday conversation in Afghanistan. This an excellent choice for anyone learning or teaching Dari.

Dari as SL 30 Dec 2012
By Mark - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Dari As A Second Language is a very good addition on the literature available for Dari language learners. I believe the book is especially helpful for those who have particular interest in the Dari spoken in Afghanistan. The book is specifically helpful for the Americans as the writer himself has had experience of living in both Afghan and American culture. I think the book is very helpful in a step by step learning process starting from a basic level understanding of Dari to an advanced one. I have been using it for the last three months and I've found it very helpful.

The book had phrases that incorporated the correct Dari style and meaning. My kids used the book to learn the every day greetings, general conversation, and adaptable phrases (with some knowledge of vocabulary words) for most conversations.

Easy way to learn Dari 3 Jan 2013
By cristynaeh - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I have lived in Afghanistan for work and always tried to get a book that I can use to continue learning Dari on my own. Nothing I got in Kabul was great and I was always wishing I could find a good book, then I came across this book andI feel so fortunate to have found it. It makes learning Dari super easy and makes it fun to learn on your own. I am really thankful to the author for this book as it was very much needed. Dari is a lovely language to learn and now I am continuing to learn on my own with the help of this great book! If you are looking for a way to learn Dari, this is it!
