Book Description

21 Jan 2010
Wren is marrying the man of her dreams just as soon as she returns from her trip to the Carolinas-on the first night there, all is changed in an instant.

Why? Because the hero of my recently completed novel, Dargan's Desire, has mistakenly taken her virginity. Set in South Carolina in 1826 this fun and sensual, the book is woven with love and deceit. Teaching two people the ultimate meaning of honesty, passion, and devotion.

Charming, spirited, full of excitement and exquisitely beautiful, Wren is forced into a loveless marriage when a beast of a man who takes her innocence. Worldly and influential, Dargan Knight, feels as if he has been trapped by this sprite of a girl into a loveless marriage he will never be able to get out of. Then fate steps in to shake up both their lives when Wren realizes she is with child.

2.0 out of 5 stars A work in progress, but not ready for prime time 4 Mar 2010
By A. Freeman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Set in 1826, Dargan's Desire is the story of Wren and Dargan and his and her family. Wren is about to meet her uncle's family down in South Carolina, when the man courting her asks her to marry him. Even though her uncle doesn't approve, she agrees to marry him when she returns in a year. Dargan's heart hasn't healed from losing his fiance in an accident and finds solace in the cold-hearted Cass, knowing that he will never love her.

When Wren arrives with her family to S.C., the house is filled to the brim with guests, but because Dargan isn't expected for a couple of days, she is allowed to use his room. Dargan returns home early to find a woman, he thinks is Cass, in his bed. The family is mortified and a wedding is planned for the following day with the groom and bride-to-be hating the very sight of each other.

I was hoping to be thrilled with the book and wanted to give a good try. The beginning was tough to get through. The author choose to use an all-knowing voice while most romances are told in the hero and heroine's points of view. Everyone said everything that was on their mind to the point that a lot of the dialogue sounds stilted and forced. I wasn't able to connect with the main characters because we were always kept at a distance and told how they felt. Even though some typos are expected in published books, there were more than the standard slip ups. As the book progressed, it got better.

Now, what Ms. Young does well. She does have a compelling story to tell. I enjoyed the tale even though the fiance had vowed revenge but never shows up again, and her fortune goes missing, but the author never comes back to that either. The hero and heroine's romance is sweet and I think that really saves the last half of the book. I'm not sure I would have read past chapter 1 normally. I do hope Ms. Young continues writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, southern style. 31 Jan 2010
By Susan L. Poston - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this book on a recommendation from a friend and couldn't put it down. I read it twice the first weekend I had it. The main character is a strong woman who knows what she wants and finds it with a hard-headed man. The way the scenes are set makes you feel like you're really in S.C. and can practically hear the water in the rivers. I highly recommend this book to anyone look for a little escapism and a heroine who isn't a push-over!
