For years whenever Daredevil was mentioned, it was always in relation to Frank Miller, who took a good idea which had been poorly executed, and turned in something revolutionary. At the time no one had done the grim and gritty, realistic superhero, and his turn on this title would lead to Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns and two decades later The Authority. For almost twenty years, no one came close.
Kevin Smith almost did. Brian Bendis certainly did.
Bendis' dark take on the hero is what Daredevil fans have deserved all along. And he could have found no more suitable a partner than Alex Maleev, whose thick, black, messy line work adds a depth to this title that no other Marvel comic can claim.
These stories centre on the 'outing' of Matt Murdock as Daredevil by the NY tabloid press. Bendis crafts a gripping tale from start to finish, and I defy anyone to read this in any more than one sitting.
If you enjoyed the movie this is your next stop.
If you didn't - pick this up, it's great.
