When I first read this book at age 12 or 13 (I'm 20 now) I was horribly teased by the "cool" kids just as Daphne and Jessica were. I was a shy, quiet bookworm with glasses, in other words, a sitting duck. But a true, once-in-a-lifetime friendship rises above all that. This will always be one of my favorites. I recommend it highly.

I read this book many years ago and it still haunts me. I read it during those horrible junior high school years and I was so happy to know that someone else felt those same feelings of constriction and alienation. A fantastic, ambitious book. It encourages young women to dream.
