Book Description

"Danny Crates’ story is about so much more than just another sportsman achieving his dreams.

Telling how a young, carefree Essex boy comes back from losing his right arm to become a Paralympic gold medallist, the book covers all the highs and lows of Danny’s life.

From the agony of the car crash on the other side of the world that cost him his arm at the age of 21, through a period of introspection as he came to terms with his disability, the achievement of becoming the world’s only one-armed scuba diving instructor, the glory of an athletics career spanning three Paralympic games, and his role as an ambassador for the London 2012 bid.

All told with Danny's amiable sense of humour and indefatigable optimism, the story is one of triumph over adversity and making the most of whatever life throws at you."

5.0 out of 5 stars Essex Boy Done Good 10 April 2012
A compelling read. Danny really does take you on a roller coaster with him. It's both emotional and funny and above all down to earth. His voice really does come through. I have seen him present and had the audience in the palm of his hand because his story is real an compelling and he tells it in a typically British self-effacing way which makes his autobiography stand out amongst many others. All my family have now read it and loved it - no greater praise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational 14 April 2012

A page turner. After a life changing accident, Danny demonstrates what you can do and never dwells on what you can't do. Great story about life's ups and downs and achieving your very best. Anyone that wins Gold on a World stage is inspirational, but not every sporting star can write an inspirational story to go with it. Danny has. He continues to be successful in all he does, and he can always go back to cleaning shark tanks and scaring little boys by pointing at his missing limb.....

A great read. Anyone that has a serious injury needs to read this book. Danny shows how to change a negative into a positive and overcome serious disability. Danny clearly shows this in his achievements since his accident. Well done Danny.
