Excitement, adventure, romance, intrigue, this book has it all! It depicts the story of a senator's daughter serving in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica and finds it necessary to switch identity to survive in the jungles. Takes on the identify of a nun traveling with three small children and encounters a handsome, rugged, dangerous and exceedingly capable Jake (Jaguar) MacKenzie, who himself will be operating under an alias. The mission for Jaguar is to thwart the sale of illegal U. S. weaponery to rebels in Costa Rica. "Creighton" (one of Jake's alias names) deals with very rugged, unethical and downright dangerous people. As the story progresses Jaguar finds himself thrust with the obligation to protect the heroine Sarah Chandler (the senator's daughter), a.k.a. Sr. Sara Josepha as well as the children in her charge. Merline's description of the jungles as well as the explosive description that takes place as Sarah and the children, Ricci, Teresa and Eduard are rescued during an extraction lead on by another OMEGA operative Maggie Sinclair - well, this book would make a box office stunner. The descriptions of the covert operations are very descriptive, intriguing, exciting and downright heart stopping. Don't know if a governmental agency such as OMEGA really exists in the U.S., but I would like to think it does - albeit under a different name of course.
The romantic scenes are sensual without being base. This is an excellent read. For me personally, I was most surprised by the ending. While a portion of the loose ends were expected; the unexpected ones left me with a nice warm and fuzzy feeling. This read really makes you feel like - you were there in the jungle with Sarah, Jake and Maggie especially during the extraction. Would really, really, really like to meet someone like Jaguar.!!!!
If you're looking for an entertaining read with all the qualities of a real winner, I highly recommend "Dangerous to Hold: Night of the Jaguar." Merline's vocabulary is also a plus; you will learn a few new words to add to yours. Read this book - I know you will absolutely love it.
