It was a very different theme than anything Patterson has wrote about before. I enjoyed it but prefer many of his other titles it still has the same flow, style and content but something was lacking for me. I usually enjoy sci-fi themed books but this one seemed as though he couldn't decide if it was for adults or children. I would still recommend it just don't expect it to be one like one of his best. So overall it's still one for the collection but if your short on money and haven't read some of his other earlier works I'd buy those first.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing New Series from James Patterson 28 Aug 2008
By DB
Format:Hardcover
The Dangerous Days of Daniel X is the first of a new childrens series by James Patterson. Having read - and greatly enjoyed - the Maximum Ride series I had high hopes for his latest book. Sadly it was a disappointment, I can't quite say where it lacked, I guess my problem with the book was that it seemed to have no basis in fact, it was complete fantasy.
Daniel X (X because he has no real surname) is an alien with special powers on earth since his childhood destined to destroy all aliens on earth. Already a slightly odd concept, his parents where killed at the age of 3 by an alien known as the Prayer, his ultimate enemy and then skips to him at 15, carrying a list of all aliens which he intends to pursue and destroy. This first book is mainly focused in his pursuit of "Number 6", Ergent Seth.
Essentially my problem with this was it's just too bizarre, in concepts, in plot. It certainly lacks the down to earth view of the Maximum Ride series and is a great failure to my mind. I shall be awaiting the next in the series, but more out of curiosity than excitement!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Disappointed 13 Aug 2008
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book expecting it to be as page turning as other Patterson books, and I was a bit disappointed, it is worth reading just to see if you are going to like this series, but for me it was a one off, I found Daniel to be lacking in character and the plot lacking in suspense it is of course a book for teenagers so maybe I was expecting too much. I wish the Daniel X series luck, but I will not be buying further books in this series.

In a word? Awful.

In many words. This is perhaps the worst book ever written!

The writing is appalling, the plot is drivel, the characters are 1 dimensional and when you have a main character who's practically God, loved by everyone (especially ones he creates himself out of thin air. Yes he creates his own fan club.), can do everything with a nod of his head and survive things that somehow instantly kill other people and has unlimted superpowers... it just makes for a very boring and very STUPID book!

Well, it just goes to show that publishers will publish anything now because of the Harry Potter Phenomenon.

I urge people not to read this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars the word ''Dissapointment'' springs to mind 6 Jan 2009
Format:Paperback
Different it is, but sadly disappointing too, I expected a lot more from the JP stable. It is beyond fantasy and even further outside your weirdest thoughts; I was ready to put it down for good after 4 chapters. Much too silly for me, I sadly won't be wasting any more money on this series. It would make a better cartoon/comic

5.0 out of 5 stars very good 20 Dec 2008
By E. Gunn
Format:Hardcover
Some reviews have said they're disappointed, but im 18 so i should be reading more adult books but i dont know where to find the type of books i like so im sticking with teenage for now, and just like the Maximum Ride series this book is a page turner. Its got everything involved in ordinary life with a super natural aspect and i love it. i love the way its written, as if its straight from the mind of Daniel. Brilliant, even adults with active imaginations would enjoy this, it only took me 4hours to read in one sitting :]

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointment 28 Aug 2008
By Riyaz B
Format:Hardcover
I was really anticipated in the release of this book, and I managed to get it really quick, way before a lot of people. However, after I read a few chapters I was dissapointed in what I had read so far.

I have been a devoted James Patterson fan for a very long time and his website mentioned the long anticipated realease of this book, with the trailor of the book being screened on the homepage of the author's website. The trailor had fooled me into thinking this was a book full of action and thriller, however it was nothing but a childrens book with wierd names given to aliens and with a very weak plot.

It may be that if you are a Maximum ride fan, this book might appeal to you, but as mentioned before it certainly shows that James Patterson was debating with himself if the book is aimed at adults or for a younger audience. Hopefully, he will come up with better thrilling plots and stories for any of his future sci-fi books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Daniel X: Alien Hunter. 2 July 2008
By Jenny, Wondrous Reads TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Daniel X is an alien hunter. Orphaned when he was just three years old, his parents left him 'The List' - names and locations of all the aliens that must be destroyed.

First on that list, and Daniel's ultimate enemy, is The Prayer - the alien responsible for killing his parents. With the help of his friends, and a few special talents (including telepathy), Daniel continues his search for the aliens that pollute the Earth (or Terra Firma, as it's known to him).

This book is as fast paced as all Patterson's previous novels, with the story moving at break-neck speed. I'd recommend it to fans of 'Maximum Ride', and I look forward to future sequels in this exciting new teen fiction series.
