Book Description

6 Dec 2011 Aurelia Marcella Roman (Paperback)
Praise for the Aurelia Marcella Roman Mysteries "I love historical novels that transport me to a time and place. Jane Finnis does just this...." -Rhys Bowen, multi-award winning author In 100 AD, life is good for the Roman settlers in the frontier province of Britannia. Aurelia Marcella's inn on the road to York is busy. But one day a soldier is murdered in his bed, and a letter arrives from Isurium, a small fort north of the city. Aurelia's cousin, Jovina, invites her to a birthday party. But the missive ends with an odd plea for help. At Isurium, Aurelia finds her family caught in a web of greed, love, intrigue, and death. Then violence erupts and she is caught between enemies engaged in an anti-Roman plot and family members with agendas of their own.... Jane Finnis lives in Yorkshire, northern England. Danger in the Wind is the fourth in the series. www.janefinnis.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms Finnis's Best yet? 11 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is the fourth book in Ms Finnis's Roman whodunnit series set in East Yorkshire around the York area. In my opinion this is the best book yet. It is written in a very lively style, with fast-paced action and language in the modern idiom, though the historical background and detail is very well-researched and cannot be faulted. It is unusual in having a woman as the main protagonist, Aurelia Marcella, headstrong and courageous, who keeps an inn on the road to York.Ms. Finnis's plot was evidently inspired by one of the famous Vindolanda writing tablets, the birthday party invitation , the first example we have of a woman's writing. I do not want to spoil the story for potential readers. I would just like to say how good it is to have a Roman whodunnit series set in Britain.I wish Ms. Finnis every success and look forward to the next book in the series (I hope there will be one!)

Format:Paperback
The book starts wth a brilliant premise and doesn't disappoint as the story unfolds. RomanBritain is vividly brought to life in Jane Finnis's latest installment of the inn keeper, Aurelias, adventures. It's a fast, pacy story with vivid characters and a real sense of the historical period. Highly recommended
