5.0 out of 5 stars Intrigue, Drama, Romance.... 26 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
If it is suspense and romance you are looking for in a story, you have it here. As the story opens you can feel Sarah's tension and when she is in the lift, well your reading might gather speed! There are several instances in the book where you will certainly not fall asleep whilst reading. The man who is after Sarah, you know is lurking, but just who is he? Once you find out more about this person you find yourself suspecting just about everyone. An excellent read. I recommend Dee Henderson to you, but a word of warning though.....you'll be hooked!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent read. 12 Jun 2011

I am a new fan to Dee Henderson and this is only the second book I have read of hers. She is a brilliant writer and shows that it is not necessary to include sex and violence to make a story believable. I look forward to working my way through the O'Malley series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Romantic Suspense 27 Mar 2012
Format:Audio CD
Dee Henderson is a favourite author in our house & we really enjoy her O'Malley Series, of which this is the prequel.

25 years ago Sara Richman was kidnapped along with her twin sister Kim & held for ransom. 9 days later they were found, Sara alive, Kim dead. One of the kidnappers was found & jailed. The other has been stalking Sara ever since. Her older brother Dave has trained as a FBI Special Agent & is lead on her protection detail. A life of anonymity is one Sara has to lead to stay secure. So getting interested in a famous football player is not a good idea.

A chance meeting in a lift that stops because of a power cut, Adam is interested in this beautiful woman with a haunted past. She pushes away hard, but Adam wants to know her & help her through whatever is bothering her. As the enormity of what Sara has to deal with comes to light, Adam is determined to be there for her despite the difficulties. Sara has had to give up so much; he doesn't want her to give up her dream for love.

This audio book version of "Danger in the Shadows" has been abridged fairly well & Matilda Novak is a good narrator - a big plus for me where audio books are concerned! Also there is music in lots of places to give atmosphere; & sound effects - footsteps, dog barking, phone ringing, thunder clapping, to name a few - which help to bring the story alive. Whether you're resting due to ill health, doing household chores or travelling in the car; this fast-paced, faith & action filled audio book is enjoyable to listen to over & over again!

Sara is the daughter of a diplomat, and a successful author. As a child, she and her sister were kidnapped and her sister died. One of the kidnappers is still at large and Sara lives under constant protection. One day she meets Adam Black, a retired football player. They fall in love, but Sara's lifestyle may be too much of an obstacle for their relationship to work.

"Danger in the Shadows" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. But the focus is on the romance and unfortunately, there's not really much suspense at all. The few suspense sequences are over just as soon as they begin. Henderson has created a nice character in Sara, and her story is interesting, but I would have liked there to be more suspense. Christian readers may like the religious parts of the story, but personally I found them unnecessary, but still not too distracting.

I would recommend "Danger in the Shadows" to Christian romance readers. Suspense readers (Christian or not) may want to look for something else.
