Excellent history of American pulp magazines covering the first half of the C20. The book is divided into themed chapters such as detective, horror & fantasy, sci-fi etc. with riveting sketches of the industry's characters, such as the tragic writer Robert E. Howard, who created Conan and the Weird Tales illustrator Margaret Brundage, who worked in pastel. Best of all, though, are the numerous, full size, colour reproductions of the mags themselves with their fabulous and often sexy cover art. "The Shadow knows".
