Book Description

May 2007
Dancing uphill celebrates one man's contribution to cycling
history. From the Midlands to Los Angeles, Berlin and the French Alps -
follow the trials and triumphs of racing cyclist, Charles Holland. In 1937
Charles competed in the world's greatest sporting event, the Tour de
France. Never before had a Union Jack vest been worn in the Tour. It was a
gallant attempt but sadly a tale of bitter disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars For every bike lover, everywhere 9 Jan 2009

Format:Paperback
This is an heroic story that deserves to be told. But it almost wasn't and this unassuming hero from a gentler age would have almost been forgotten. What he accomplished riding at devilish speed in the 1930s was incredible. Fantastic distances at the hottest pace, setting and smashing records galore. And of course the first Englishman to ride the legendary and monstrously difficult Tour de France - all on his own. No backup, no mates, no manager and not able to speak the language. Your heart bleeds for what he did and what he did should never be forgotten. I loved this book and what it said about a gentle man who was a giant in his sport. And he was still turning the pedals and clocking fast times well into his 60s!! If you love cycling and Boy's Own adventure stories, this is the book for you. Buy it and enjoy!! Ten out of ten.
