What a book! 11 April 2005
Format:Paperback
Even if you are not interested in ballet or the theatre this is an exceptional book, particularly for a first novel. Very strong characters, and very detailed knowledge of the subject shown by the author.
You will laugh, you will cry, but above all, you will want to recommend this book to other people. It's Birdsong for artists.

true escapism 10 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
I cannot think of words to describe this book.It is a fantastic read, that seems to convey every emotion thorugh its vivid characters. The dancing element should not put you off.Beyond the first few chapters you begin to see a story emerging with far more complexity which truely draws you in to an unputdownable read. A must.

Unputdownable 13 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
It's been a long time since I enjoyed a story of such epic proportions. I know nothing of the ballet world other than the occasional foray to the theatre to watch a live performance (recommended, by the way!) I picked up this book at the airport and with a long flight ahead of me, reckoned this story must at least go some way to relieve the long journey ahead.

It did. By the time I touched down in the States the book was almost finished (it has 730 pages). I enjoyed it's freshness and the characters. Yes, some of them were annoying occasionally and some of the situations a little improbable. But hey, it's fiction!

Highly recommended and I endorse everything others have said her who enjoyed it.

I look forward to Rebecca Horsfall's next book.

Really, really good!
I was reluctant to read this book; I knew nothing of ballet, and the endorsement that Rebecca Horsfall was 'the new Jilly Cooper' seemed more like a blight than a compliment to me. Read more

Surprising!!
I don't actaully like Ballet. I have no clue what a lot of the technical words mean or what the ballet world is actually like. Read more

For every woman who's favourite book as a child was "Ballet Shoes" and then went on to read Jilly Cooper but got sick of the juvenile writing. Read this one! Read more

Good entertaining read.
I didn't think I was going to like this but it sucked me in and I found myself staying up late to finish the book!

Looking forward to her next book.
