CD Description

Martin Frösts latest releases have featured core repertoire for his instrument from the 18th and 19th centuries, and most recently a disc of his wide-ranging encores. All of these offerings have been singularly well received by reviewers and record buyers alike, and have contributed to Frösts flourishing concert career. On this disc, accompanied by the Australian Chamber Orchestra under Richard Tognetti, Fröst presents a wide-ranging selection of works all connected with dancing. The principal work on this disc is Coplands Clarinet Concerto, and with special permission from the Copland Fund, the disc ends with the fireworks of the original and later revised, dazzling ending of the Concerto. Fröst also includes on this disc works by Lutoslawski, Anders Hillborg and Piazzolla, as well as an arrangement of Brahms Four Hungarian Dances arranged by his brother, Göran.

Phenomenal play and a balanced selection of numbers. The disc could involve four or five more numbers. Finishes too quickly.
Let's hear more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frost sizzles 28 April 2012
By William J Jones - Published on
If you like either Jewish or Hungarian music, then you'll love Frost's take on these familiar (Hungarian) and reminescent (Klezmer) tunes.
Frost is definitely a virtuosic clarinetist who is only exceeded in speed and almost equal in ability by the Rom musicians of Eastern Europe.
