My Mum was so looking forward to this item for Christmas, and it was a real let down.
The idea is fine...book of instructions/pictures, with DVD to view routines....but there are 10 routines and only the music and viewing for 4 of them.
My Mum does not have an extensive CD collection and she was looking forward to dancing to the MUSIC from the musicals.Would a DVD or CD including the music for all 10 routines be too much to ask?
As a retired dance teacher I know how important having the music to work to is to everyone learning a new routine, especially the music played at varying speeds to gradually work up to full speed. I now have the thankless task of trying to find all the music from the musicals that is NOT included in the set and getting them to my mum to practise to.
Bad move Arlene...this is a very poorly thought through set that does not make allowances for people who do not have your music resources at their finger tips.
On a HEALTH AND SAFETY point...the book suggests you learn number 1 and 10 of the routines first as they are the warm up and cool down routines...there is no music or video viewing to do these to so best of luck getting first timers to warm up and cool down safely.

Well - 10 routines it says. And I guess there are 10 routines in the book. However there are only 4 of them on the DVD - the rest you have to find the music for. The book is quite well-produced though the photos of the routines stretch out over many pages making them look more difficult than they really are.
The DVD is abysmal. For anyone trying to learn from it the shots cut into close up of a face just when you'd need to know what the feet are doing and generally move around at random making following the routine very difficult. There is a good section where Arlene takes the viewer through the moves beat at a time and it would be very helpful if that could easily be repeated but instead one has to trawl back through a terribly awkward to camera chat from her explaining her history with the musical. All together very unprofessionally made and not very useful
And one final gripe: the CD doesn't fit properly back onto the stopper in the book so it drops out.
Don't pay 18.99 for this book - it's possibly worth getting at 3.99 which was what I paid

I purchased this book after listening to Arlene Phillips on the radio. It sounded just what I needed to get my exercise routine going. I was sadly disappointed. Its very hard to learn the moves and routines from the book - do you hold in 1 hand whilst trying the move or put it down somewhere and continually reference it after each move? I was also dismayed by the number of moves to learn for each routine, I was expecting 10 or so but they are broken down into 70+ moves. The DVD isn't much help either. I had thought that, with the book advising that a warm up is very necessary, at least one of the tracks would be the warm up routine so that I could get started as soon as the book arrived. How wrong I was.

Its my own fault - I was enthused listening to Arlene on the radio , there was only 1 review on here so I thought go for it and dance yourself healthy. Wish I'd waited for more reviews now and I wouldn't have bought it. Ah well put it down to experience.

Bought this for my mum as a birthday present, and I havent heard from her since, she has been dancing left, right and centre!

From what I have heard, the DVD is fantastic and very professional. A brilliant free addition to the book.

Thank you Arlene for providing me with such a successful birthday present!

I bought this when it was first on sale and was so disappointed.I found the DVD only had about 4 lessons and there was no music for the other musicals. However, even the 'lessons' that WERE included were impossible for me to follow- too fast and unclear- the pictures in the book helped a bit but it was painfully slow and soul destroying to keep referring back. I prefer live classes or other DVDs on sale to this. Unfortunately, there are too many reselling cheap in market place (no surprise) for me to soften the blow and get a bit of money back. P.S. The book may be useful for a semi Professional for some ideas though?

Very disappointed, fully expected at least the music to the "musicals", expected more from a product with Arlene's name on it. As a person who is not a natural dancer thought this product very poor, another thing to go to the back of the bookcase, until the next jumble sale.
