Though these books do not come into the realms of truly great literature they are thoroughly enjoyable crime fiction and this one, set mostly in the weird landscapes of Cappadocia, is no exception. Having myself travelled with Turkish friends extensively in this area I thought she had captured the atmosphere and oddness of the place perfectly.

If you have enjoyed any of the other Inspector Ikmen books then certainly give this one a go.

Dance with Death provides a comfortable and light read with a continually maintained interest. It gives a true portrayal of the multicultural environment in Turkey, and provides a very fitting fictional story. The book is however not able to provide an exciting finish to the story. It is also unfortunately full of typos and incorrectly explained Turkish words/names. It is better not to have a glossary than to have an incorrect one!

This was my first Nadell novel. The abiding impression of the book is the flavour of Turkish society and relationships rather than Istanbul or Cappadocia, where frankly we didn't get much beyond the fairy chimneys, fairy chimneys and yet more chimneys.

The ending was disappointing. I didn't mind the coincidences - it's rather part of the detective novel genre - but one of the two plots didn't come off, I think.
