Let me start by saying, I am a fan of David's work. I have been reading his material since about the release of his third book so it's been a while and if my review is biased then so be it. But not everything he has written that I have commented on has been 5 star in my opinion as I do try and keep things balanced and wait a good while until I put fingers to keyboard. The last of the Shadowdance series is a blinder (that means very good for non UK based readers of the English version) , Did everything turn out the way I wanted? No ...not even close.. But that in a way is what I expected of Mr Dalglish when you follow his stories it is much like your one of his invited party as he wonders this strange world he has created for you.

The watcher is a deeply flawed human, there is no chance he was ever going to be anything else given his upbringing and life style.. but while we really have never found out about his background (beyond his grandfather was a soldier etc) there is a genetic strength there that in his case has allowed him to become the best of what could be expected . A key character in the stories sums it up best before setting off a new life with her chosen family (I will not provide details if you have not read the book yet go get it) . The story has action, stealth, magic, camaraderie, humour, horror, love and betrayal ... a roller coaster that you cannot help but enjoy.. Will there be face book fans writing poems about this book in many years times? ..no.. But there will be memories that make you smile, it is the finishing up of one of the many colours that make up the wonderful work that the Author (and now collaborators ie.. gods war ) have created for our pleasure.. Enjoy! I certainly did.

Back into the world of the watcher and all his glory, I remember the battle from the half orcs books and it was nice to have a second perspective on it. Fast paced and full of action, this book keeps you entertained throughout.
