Dan Tunstall was born in Leicester. He still lives there with his wife and two daughters. He has worked in a factory making fridges, as a gardener, as a market trader and as a Primary school teacher. In his spare time he enjoys reading, watching old horror films and listening to music. He is a long-suffering Leicester City fan and a season ticket holder. BIG AND CLEVER is his first novel for young adults, and has been described by award-winning author Bali Rai as "ten times better than the usual teenage c**p".
In May 2010, BIG AND CLEVER was shortlisted for the Branford Boase First Book Award, which is given each year to the most promising work of fiction for children by a first time author.
