An inspiring and beautifully written debut,
By
This review is from: Dan Clews (Audio CD)
Dan Clews' eponymous debut album is a touching and riveting experience, which pushes new boundaries for Folk music and feels refreshing but at the same time retains a comletely relaxed and accessible sound. Described by some as "Folktronica", Clews fuses sweet and soothing tune to his own soulful vocals in addition to elements of synthesised tones and sounds which (through the majority of the album) compliment and enhance the traditional acoustic affair. Possibly the only element that holds Clews' work back from an exceptional status lies in one of its greatest strengths, the simplicity and subtlety that it commands. The gentle, rural melodies and lyric while exceptionally presented may sometimes leave the listener wondering whether more could have been implemented, or a greater level of design and complexity considered.
Nevertheless, a very strong and utterly enchanting piece of music that will remain with the listener long after it finishes. Dan Clews' has set a high bar both to himself and to the musical community with this foray of pop tinged folk and deserves a great deal of recognition for his work. Standout Tracks: Move too Fast, Kings for Blood

Dan Clews is AMAZING!!!!!!!,

Saw Dan at 'Folking in the Strawberries' in Sevenoaks and again last week at the Tunbridge Wells Forum. It was well worth the drive, although he didn't have the full band, the songs were superb, they stand up on their own with just a voice and guitar. This is a fantastic album, it's sort of folk and sort of pop but not the cheesy stuff that Simon Cowell feeds the nation. You can definitely hear the Beatles-esque production values and they really work. I love heavy rock but I still love the album 'Dan Clews'. My 14 year old daughter put the album on the top of her Christmas list after listening to the album taster over and over again on MySpace and she is currently encouraging all her school friends to be Dan Clews fans too! Dan has something about him when he performs, we used to call it the 'X-factor' but that phrase has been hijacked and re-defined but the TV show, he definitely has 'je ne sais quoi', go see him if you can. Its a brilliant show, I can't wait to see the full band.

Simple, Stunning and Beautiful...,

Having heard a couple of the songs off this album on the Bob Harris show, I decided to see Dan play at the Roadhouse in Manchester and he was sublime. I bought this album off the back of Dan's live performance and I have to say that I absolutely love it.
Each and every track is a veritable gem of cleverly constructed writing, poetic lyrics and great acoustic folk-guitar playing. The highlight of the album for me is the track 'Out in the garden' which conveys an almost forlorn longing, stated in such a beautiful, haunting way. Really great stuff.
