Biography

In an era of plastic, manufactured music, it is always refreshing when someone goes against the grain and does what they want to do. Hank Williams III is the best example of this in music today. For over twelve years now Shelton Hank Williams III has been fighting the music industry to be his own man. Cast by certain people in the shadow of his legendary grandfather, Williams has fought long ... Read more in Amazon's Hank Williams III Store

Product Description

Explicit Version. Hank III is back with his highly anticipated 2008 album, Damn Right, Rebel Proud. The grandson of Hank Williams, Sr. and the son of Hank Williams Jr, both country music legends, the younger Williams' music alternates between somewhat traditional Country, and a more aggressive music that touches on Punk Rock and elements of various Heavy Metal styles. His music is an eclectic collage tattoo of Hard-Twang, Cowpunk, Alt-Country, Hellbilly, and Honky Punk. Hank III enjoys an extremely loyal grassroots fan base and much of his success can be attributed to his taper-friendly stance of his frenetic live tours.

Hank III continues his transition and journey after finally gettin the legalitys sorted to release the follow up to his last LP Straight to Hell. Straight to Hell being a hard act to follow as is set the standard, sticking to tranditional roots but amplifiying them to 10 and coating it in outlaw fashion. Dont get me wrong Hank III us not Hank Sr, both have a array of talent in songwriting and tradition but what makes III different is he focus's on his outlaw persona as well as the traditional lonesome blues heard on song "I Wish I Knew" for example. I must mention Hank III is very explicit at times and may not be for everyone but past that it all makes for another masterpiece. The album is slower than Straight To Hell, songs such as " Aint So Grand" aims to provide awarness of the important issue of reinstating HANK Sr to the Grand Ol Opry, Wild and Free is a sure shot catchy single informing listers of the sins that he lives with but form part of the life he loves. Six Pack Of Beer, follows the fast punk country we saw on Straight to Hell and does give you a lift. Highlights include Thre Shades Of Black, Working Man and Me and My Friends - all sticking to the traditional style we have become acustomed to by III. PFF a song dedicated to the outlaw GG Allin may not be for everyone a song and accoustic together that is over 10 minutes - to me it is brilliant but the swearing can get a bit much but its all in good fun and still has impressive guitar work. And finally the last song of note is Long Hauls And Close Calls which is the first single and can be heard on his website if you want to see what III is all about, all in all this is a masterpiece "really" a terrific country record with attitude!

It is a great album but don't buy this (more expensive) version. The swearing is either blanked out or bleeped. This totally ruins the album and totally defeats the object. I find it hard to believe there is such censorship in 2008. Total waste of my money because I have to get the 'proper version' (Explicit Lyrics - which wasn't on offer when I bought this) as well now so I can fully enjoy the album.

Once again the legacy of Hank Williams senior is in good hands. Hank III is back with an amazing new album. Backed with the truly legendary Johnny Hilland on guitar producing the most amazing Chicken Pickin guitar he is known for. Never better displayed than in the anthem P.F.F.

First track Grand Ole Opry sums the thinking of Hank, being his disdain for the whole country industry as it stands today. Reinstate Hank Williams people!

The flavours of the proceeding tracks carry on with the thinking of this man, anti-establishment, drug taking, generally getting messed up for the sake of it. But it all is in good fun really, apart from the sombre track Candidate For Suicide, which I personally hope he doesn't believe.

Another triumph for country fans, that is REAL country fans. Toby Keith fans need not apply!
