DVD Description

Season 1--Set in New York's world of high stakes litigation, Damages follows the lives of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close), the nation's most revered and most reviled litigator, and her bright, ambitious protégée Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) as they become embroiled in a class action lawsuit targeting Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson), one of the country's wealthiest CEOs. As Patty battles Frobisher and his attorney, Ellen learns what it takes to win at all costs -- and that lives, not just fortunes, are at stake.

Season 2--Two-time Emmy® winner Glenn Close stars in this award-winning show! As Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) is pondering her next move, Daniel Purcell (William Hurt), a man from her past, throws her into a new legal challenge. What starts as a domestic murder case escalates into the highest reaches of government as Patty unearths a vast conspiracy. At the same time, Ellen (Rose Byrne) is on a mission to take down Patty. She’s agreed to act as an informant for the F.B.I., assisting them in their criminal investigation of Patty and the firm. As Patty unravels the mystery surrounding Daniel Purcell, she must also negotiate the perilous minefields both inside and outside her office. Also Starring Tate Donovan, Marcia Gay Harden, Timothy Olyphant, Ted Danson and William Hurt.

Season 3--Inspired by recent events in the world's economic collapse, Season 3 showcases Damages signature legal-thriller storytelling as Patty Hewes takes on the Tobin family - a secretive clan determined to protect its interests at all costs.

I had no clue what this was about and ordered it on the strength of the reviews I read on Amazon. Brilliant is a word I don't often use to describe films but am happy to do so here. Mostly what caught my attention was the raw ambition of the lawyers involved and not being one, the thought crossed my mind they were missing real life as they scurried about scratching for the next big pay day. Damages may not help the image we have of lawyers in real life, but the acting was incredible, and Glen Close was so good she was scary.

Have just sat through all of series 1-3 on DVD and I am not sure I would bother with Series 4 (whenever it comes out). I am a fan of legal / cop drama, and in theory this should be a hit; but somehow it doesn't quite do it for me. The acting, like many have already remarked, is OTT in places and the cast is nowhere near as strong as other series. The main problem though is the story - there are endless twists and turns and whilst it makes for some compulsive viewing early on, you start to switch off very quickly as scene upon scene of back-stabbing and plot twists makes it seem like the work of a slightly deranged man... Everyone is very well dressed and slick but it looks very contrived, and the endless flashbacks / soft focus shooting really starts to weary on. It would be unfair to compare it to series like The Wire (which is in my view the best written series of all time) as it's just an inferior product. I will be trading in my DVDs for something else at my local store.

Absolutly brilliant and first class service. The product arrived on time and in mint condition. I still can't believe the price difference from buying it elsewhere. I made a saving of £50 pound. I would diffinetly but from this seller again.
