The landmark TV drama continues with a whole new generation, as JR's (Larry Hagman) and Sue Ellen's (Linda Gray) son, John Ross (Josh Henderson), locks horns with Bobby's (Patrick Duffy) adopted son Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe), proving that in Texas - oil is still thicker than blood. Both families want control of the coveted Southfork family estate. With JR's cunning guidance, John Ross is determined to drill it, while Christopher backed by Bobby, searches for alternative fuels, and plans to donate Southfork to a conservatory. Its a battle without limits, whether it means stealing another man's money, loyalty, girlfriend or wife - leaving just one question - Whose side are you on?

I had a vague memory of the old Dallas' fame but the image of a villain J.R. (like the iconic hats of Dynasty's brunette she-devil) somehow stayed with me over time, so when this new series arrived I was curious to give it a try (also knowing some of the new actors), even if I can't clearly have a deep opinion about the continuity-factor & how faithfully the old plot developed into the new 1, but I can say that the core legacy of the big picture survived...& overall I've liked it, both the old & new group.

As the writers told in the dvds' interview you won't find anything groundbreaking here, but a good classic storytelling, & it's also played well by the cast, not as a bad soap-opera (Larry Hagman in great form in primis, also thanks to his funny naughty lines!): every episode closes with a cliffhanger & even if there are just 10 of them there's evolution for those characters (nobody is just black & white). Anyway they've left something bombastic for the finale, preparing for more to come next. Besides, nice touch using songs of Johnny Cash to set the mood for the key-moments!
The (authentic this time arund) landscape & setting is beautifully shot with a modern set of cameras (again, not only close-ups like soaps used to do), plus there is some guest star from the old show too as a gift for the fans, & probably we'll see more than that in the next season, due to the success of this experiment (in short not a reboot but a continuity with a new generation from the previous Dallas). Even if you didn't know the original 1, if you like something "Gossip Girl's style", you could enjoy this as well.

"Blood is thicker than water. And oil is thicker than blood": the motto gives you an idea about what you should expect from the series...PS_It's so sad to hear that Larry Hagman has just passed away. Dallas won't be the same without this icon, RIP.

Like every other Dallas die-hard, I awaited this series with both anticipation and trepidation. So many re-makes fall flat, and this one could have been miserable. The good news? It's fabulous! The old Dallas themes we know and love are there - family, rivalry, business wars, double dealing and the age old argument about pumping oil at Southfork.......However, everything feels shiny, new and polished this time around. The episodes tend to concentrate on the deteriorating relationship between cousins John Ross and Christopher and they light up the screen, which is amazing considering whose cowboy boots they have to fill. However, it is the old devils who make it worth the watch - J.R. and Bobby are still locking horns, and the chemistry between J.R. and Sue Ellen is still sparkling. Larry Hagman is still pure gold on the screen - the old Texas charisma just can't be beaten. Sue Ellen (I have stopped caling her Swellin as befits her new, sober, powerful role)is a joy to watch..........My only criticisms are that the other female characters are not as interesting as they could be, that Cliff isn't featured enough(!!!!!) and that the inside of Southfork appears to have been re-arranged beyond recognition. But these are only minor points. Nothing can ever match Dallas in its heyday but this new incarnation is great fun and, as always, the cliffhanger will have you waiting for the next season. Bring it on!

Back to the 80's. Same plots but updated characters plus a few of the old ones. great entertainment. Highly recommended for a wet Sunday.

so nice to see an old series revived without them messing it all up. This follows on from where it left off perfectly.

Loved it good old JR at his best, wondered if new series would live up to all the hype, but it did and more.
