As a guide for students and practitioners it is unrivalled. The original structure has been retained, with an extensive introductory chapter dealing with the sources of the modern law in its comparative context, and modern efforts to develop uniform or harmonised law at international level (in the EU, Uncitral and Unidroit). Further chapters then deal with with contract in the Common and Civil Law, payments, movable tangible and intangible assets, and the concept of ownership and possession. Later chapters look at finance leases, repos, receivable financings and securitisations, the regulation of cross border financial services and investment banking practices. Litigation and procedural matters which are often bypassed in books dealing with substantive commercial law, are covered in chapters devoted to international jurisdiction, provisional measures, the recognition of foreign judgments and bankruptcy decrees, and, finally, international arbitration.
