First released in 2004, this is the fifth episode of the third season of audio releases to feature the Daleks and no Doctor.

This episode picks up directly from the fourth in the season. All the separate story lines are now starting to come together and coalesce into a staggering epic whole. The truth behind the healing zones starts to become clear, and the Graxis Wardens find themselves a cause. Frustratingly the cliffhanger in the Galanar/Tarkov/Alaria story line in the final moments of episode 4 is not addressed until nearly half way through this episode, but addressed it is, ina thrilling fashion.

Now that all the storylines have been set up, the plot starts to move with a great deal of pace towards a conclusion. This episode has a lot of thrills and spills along the way, and some genuinely tense moments that really had me on the edge of my seat. There is also still room for character development, and themes of trust between the various rag tag of people forced together to fight the Daleks are explored. Along with all of this, the true nature of the Dalek healing zones is starting to become clear, with hints and suggestions that indicate a particularly evil and mind boggling scheme that is almost incomprehensible in its scale and grandiosity.

It's a thrill ride of an adventure, the only shortcoming is that it is not a stand alone release, you really need to listen to all the others in the series to get the full story. It's a single disc release, and clocks in at just over an hour. I love the sixties retro artwork, there is a feeling that this has been produced by people like me for people like me - people with a love of good design, a reverence for the Daleks and a sense of style. Excellent, 5 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Padding, Padding, Padding 27 Dec 2004
By Jane Aland VINE VOICE
Up to now the 3rd Dalek Empire series has been enjoyable enough, but with this 5th (and penultimate) chapter it all falls to pieces. In short this chapter is 95% padding, and the 5% new revelations (the Daleks are not curing the virus sufferers but turning them into Daleks) are all obvious and expected anyway. Briggs pools most of his heroes - the wardens and Galanar and co, and then they proceed to mistrust each other and argue for the majority of this play. No new information comes to light, and the plot doesn't advance one inch. By the time they've stopped arguing, there's barely time for a refuelling for their ship (did I mention padding?) and the episode is over. A completely unnecessary chapter, and a waste of the cost of a CD.
