3.0 out of 5 stars Hesitant rebirth 8 Sep 2005
By Jane Aland VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Dalek War is the direct sequel to Big Finish's four-part Dalek Empire, and picks up the characters several years down the line, with the familiar human cast now fighting alongside the alternate universe Daleks against the standard Daleks, and seemingly winning the war. All is not going completely to plan however, as the humans are beginning to suspect that the alternate universe Daleks aggressive methods of peace-keeping may be just as lethal as the warmongering Daleks they're used to, and the connection between the Dalek Emperor and Susan from the original miniseries is given a nasty new spin. Despite a few new interesting ideas, such as a female Davros alternate universe counterpart, unfortunately far too much time is taken recapping over events in the first mini-series, and getting all the characters up to speed with current events (not only during the play, afterwards we get a trailer for Dalek Empire - who on Earth would buy the sequel without hearing the original anyway?) It's nicely done, but as such, very little actually happens in this chapter apart from setting the stage for events to come...

4.0 out of 5 stars Attack of the Vaarga Men 27 Oct 2004
By Jane Aland VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD

While terraforming an entire planet in order to provide a trap may be rather stretching credulity, it's a pleasant distraction as the space opera action is broken up here by the attack of the Dalek created half-human half-plant Vaarga. Elsewhere its all go, as 2 series regulars bite the dust in an unexpected fashion, and Kalendorf finally sets his plan in motion, by seemingly switching sides. After a couple of chapters of various shadowy plottings, things are finally kicking into high gear as we head for the climax...
