Disappointed 25 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
My daughters, 5 and 7, have enjoyed all the "Daisy and the Trouble with....." books. However I would not have purchased this book if I had read it first. The story in parts is not appropriate for my children and the retelling of the Christmas story is incorrect. I have provided one example from the text so that others may make an informed choice before purchasing.
"He said, "Missssss, if Mary is Joseph's wife but she's having God's baby, does that mean she's been having an affair?"
Mrs Peters went a bit red, and said no, it didn't. It just means that God "moves in mysterious ways".
Then Jack Beechwhistle started moving in mysterious ways in his school chair."

I had this book on pre-order as soon as I saw it. My daughter has all the Daisy books and couldn't wait for a new one. The trouble with christmas.. had her laughing out loud, as all Kes Gray's books do. She is 7 and was begging to read a few more pages before school untill it was finished. There is humour for both parent and child which makes a nice change and I can enjoy listening to her read without yawning my head off. I find she is much more expressive when reading as Daisy and is keen to talk about and extend ideas from the book long after she's finished reading.
Have now just pre-ordered Daisy and the trouble with...maggots. Can't wait!!

Fun, quirky read 1 Nov 2010

These books are great for a child who enjoys a book with some humour. Daisy always gets into mischief and the writer captures a young child's innocence in the humour. There are a few pictures. So a good transition to non picture books. My little girls have related to these books well and the stories have inspired them to be independent readers. Recommended for bedtime story or independently for a 6-8 year old reader.
