4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly good but..., 19 Jan 2009
By Chris (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is an easy read. I have never been taken in by back of book blurb, about how the author will bravely tell it like it is, with thoughtfulness and humour. I didn't think it was greatly funny, but as snippets it is thought provoking. Who is the book for - intially you might think it's for Christians to give to non-Christians, and in many ways does fill that role, but occasionaly uses words like evangelism, which should be unpacked. One part espcially grated with me. There is an assumption that vicars will be male with a family. Later on, though, he uses the unhelpful phrase lady vicar, and seems surprised when a confirmation service was meaningful in a cold country church. This moans aside it was an easy read, and if enjoyed without reading the back would be valuable.
