5.0 out of 5 stars will it be this one 10 July 2010
By hairdo
I should never have asked my husband for help with a clue i did not know the answer to as he is now addicted to my Daily Mail saturday crossword!Unfortunately one a week between two of us just does not work i tried buying two papers but i kept peeping at his answers so that was not a great sucess either(he always finishes his and only does the cryptic clues)I never knew there was actually books i could buy to feed our addictions so i was as pleased as punch when i discovered this.Excellant crosswords and on tap when i fancy a clue or two without having to wait for a saturday. It was exactly as i hoped it would be no different from the paper version,in actual fact i have now ordered the second volume for my husband who never lets it out of his sight! The icing on the cake though would be for me to actually finish a crossword all by myself, each time i start a new one i think will it be this one...

5.0 out of 5 stars Definately challenging 12 Jun 2012

Having got through the full range of the Daily Mail Quick Crossword books I thought I would try my hand at this one. The others were childs play compared to this but fortunately there are answers at the back of the book so I don't have to wait until Saturday every time. It's a challenging book and is cheap as chips. What more could you want?

5.0 out of 5 stars loving crosswords 1 Sep 2011
By Fussy
Love this book!! - Normally have to wait a week at a time for the Saturday Mail - until I found this book!
Now I can have a crossword (or two) on the go all the time! The only thing is, it is sometimes too tempting to look at the answers, cos they're at the back of the book

5.0 out of 5 stars Giant Crossword from the Satuday Mail 3 Nov 2009
I purchase The Giant Crossword book for my husband who read the Daily Mail and does the crossword every day. As we were due to go on holiday to Jamacia I thought it would be a good idea for the Airport, on the 10 hour flight and around the pool whilst relaxing. It was a very good buy, value for money and also the same composer as he was used to.

I love these crosswords and am totally addicted. There would have been five stars, but some of the clues and answers are repeated quite often. Nevertheless, it keeps me entertained and out of mischief - always a good thing!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best "two-speed" crossword 28 Aug 2010
By Peter B
The Daily Mail "Giant" crossword is the only one I know of where there are two sets of clues - cryptic and simple - that both give the same answers. (There are others with two sets of clues but they give different answers).

This is brilliant for anyone learning how to work with cryptic clues. My wife and I started doing these crosswords in the Mail a few years ago. We did not know how to solve cryptic clues. Initially we wrote the simple clues alongside the cryptic ones and learnt the technique. Then we used just the cryptic clues as far as possible and referred to the simple clues when we got stuck. Now we normally solve the whole puzzle with the cryptic clues (just occasionally using the simple clues at the end).

The Giant Crossword in only in the Saturday Mail, so sometimes we ran out. This book has lots of puzzles so we never run out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun. 26 April 2014

We use this book, to keep brain working, the first few pages, I was ready to bin it, as I could not get on with the crosswords. Yes they made me cross. However, I am getting there, I now use both types of clues, I have never used the cryptic before, and still not sure. We work on them for about an hour or so a day. Tip, photo copy the crossword, one person read the clues, and every one can fill in the crossword at the same time. makes for a social occasion as well. Good way to keep brain working.
I think they are medium difficult. However I am not good at crosswords that are not General knowledge, so this does challenge me.
