It is not very often that I find a book that is able to suffuse the traits of the west with that of the east in such a seamless and believable way; if that is what you are after look no further than Dai-Sho by Marc Olden. The book, mainly set in China, relates the story of an ex-cop turned brilliant crime reporter and his relations with the east, his estranged son, two criminal war lords and a debt of honour. The fighting scenes, though graphic for some, are brilliantly described, original, and will keep you riveted to your seat. Indeed the plot is one of intrigue and deception which will keep guessing till the end. If you like ninjas and samuri but have little understanding of both this book is very insightful. However, if the description of a katana slowly disemboweling some poor (but by no means innocent) person is too much for you get rather get Harry Potter. A must for martial arts enthusiasts!
