The first thing to note is I can see people being put off because it uses subtitles. Don't be. The dialogue is minimal and you don't need it to follow the story .The plot is obvious ; the ending predictable but it hooks you in from the start with natural performances, wonderful direction and for once the important characters are all female. The balance between the tense action scenes and the growing friendship of the lead characters is perfectly handled. It's the sort of film you want to cheer when the bad guys get their come-uppance. Don't miss it.

Superb movie. Thrilling, horrifying, exhilarating, satisfying. The time went by quickly, all the actors were spot on. Without spoiling it, both the young girls were amazing and not for one moment did I think that they were acting. They felt their roles, lived them and it showed. It is well worth the watch on so many levels. A memorable film and one that I'd quite happily watch again.

Fine action thriller with good acting and great backdrop. The story is really simple but part of it's strength is in that. It's no nonsense stuff and beautiful to look at! Quite like the tunes as well!

This movie is short and to the point. The dialogue is spare and the plot motors along with moderate suspension of disbelief required.

Signe's family are killed by a band of outlaws on a bleak Norwegian pass. There are a couple of times when it was obvious what was going to happen next but that's not always a bad thing. The movie never tried too hard and the direction ensured there was always something to look at.

It's not often a movie has a complex central character who is female and Dagmar's motivation is slightly cliche but nevertheless believable. In some ways, very Ripley-gone-wrong.

The medieval period detail looked more post apocalyptic, but that was fine given that the movie wasn't going for absolute veracity and the Black Death did leave a wreaked society behind it.

The real star of the show was the Norwegian scenery - sparse, rugged and very, very empty. The contrast between the open uplands and the forest was well used and the bleak grey sky added to the atmosphere.

If you have an hour or so to spend, take a look.

This DVD arrived only 18 hours or so after I ordered it, and not only that it, it was a magnificent film. The storyline, one of vengeance, escape (hence the name) and sisterhood with an unlikely friend of the heroine, makes for a wonderfully juicy movie. Furthermore, the 'baddies' of the film, or at least their leader, are not set up in the typical Hollywood 'they're mean because they just are' format; they, or rather she, also has a story behind her. Finally, for any fans of Gaahl (Kristian Espedal) out there, although he has virtually no dialogue in this movie, he, above all others, adds to the menacing, predatory and medieval nature of this film and it's plot. Unfortunately, as is expected of a 'baddie' in the Medieval times, he is killed, though, unsurprisingly, the shot doesn't exactly show him die; no doubt the film crew, like those who admire him the world over, know that it's difficult to imagine a figure like Gaahl die, or even be born for that matter...

Anyway, great movie, great plot, great cast, great acting, great review; what else matters...

Tense, low budget Norwegian drama. Maybe not to everyones taste but a refreshing change from the Hollywood film I stopped watching midway. Isabel Christine Andreasen's nervous performance as Signe made the film, but good performances all round.

Riveting , brutal and surprisingly good. A low budget drama and unlike standard hollywood fare , realistically potrayed and historically plausible. Isabel and Ingrid , the leading actors carried the movie. Hope to see the two ladies more often

Being a big fan of the Cold Prey trilogy, I couldn't wait to see what the director's new film would be like and luckily Escape not only delivered the goods, but exceeded them too! Set during the 14th century after the Black Plague had ravished the lands, Escape is full of action, gruesome moments and a fantastic plot!

With an excellent cast, set and great costumes, Escape is a must see for all fans of films like Braveheart and Robin Hood. With the director's previous work being the much loved Cold Prey series, there's plenty here that horror fans will eat up as well as action and adventure fans too!

Highly recommended - check out this little gem!
