Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Video Recorders have been with us for decades now and remain a popular choice despite the possibilities offered by new technologies. The main reason being that many of us have a lot of tapes with our own recordings on that we'd have to throw away if we changed to a new system.

Not anymore! Daewoo Electronics' New DVD & VCR Recorders allow you to transfer your VCR collection onto DVD in one simple touch. DVDs will keep your material much safer than videotapes, take up less storage room and are easier to flick through when you are looking for a specific scene.

Another reason being TV recording devices are famously difficult to get to grips with. The thought of having to learn a new programming system is enough to put many people off upgrading to a DVD recorder. The Daewoo DVD & VCR Recorders couldn't be more straightforward to use with a simple recording procedure which can be set up in one touch and a user friendly menu system with graphical element.

And if you need further persuasion - they will also improve the quality of picture and audio while transferring your tapes to DVD through '3D Noise Reduction' which cleans up the copy by reducing noise and fuzziness resulting in a better quality than the original. The picture quality is excellent as it uses progressive scan as opposed to interlace like a TV, therefore, no flickering which results in a clearer, sharper picture.

There are two versions in the range which are both highly compatible and can record both DVD and video, copy video to DVD and vice-versa. This is a highly economical means of transferring all your tapes to DVD in one touch instead of having to pay someone to do it for you.

This model comes with I-Link which has a digital input as opposed to analogue, allowing you a totally clean and fast data transfer for digital camcorders.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC piece of kit!!! 9 May 2005
Verified Purchase
I was dubious, not knowing whether Daewoo were a good brand for electronics or not, but I was looking for a VCR/DVD+RW combi, and decided to take a chance. I'm not sorry I did either.
The free disc that came with it stopped recording after 8 minutes, and now the player doesn't recognise the disc - it keeps saying 'no disc', so I began to fear the worst. However, at the same time I purchased some spare discs (Verbatim DVD+RW 4.7GB (4x) 10pk Jewel Case), and all these record perfectly, are recognised AFTER recording, play on my modern DVD player (though not on my older model in the bedroom) with no problems at all.
Setting up is a doddle, recording from Sky+ couldn't have been easier with scart connections, and copying from VHS onto DVD+RW was simpllicity itself. Copying VHS tapes of programmes recorded off the tv years ago has SIGNIFICANTLY improved the picture quality.. it's astounding.
I've only had it a couple of days so far, but have recorded fully onto 10 discs already, and apart from the initial free disc, I have had absolutely no problems at all.
I have no problem in recommending this piece of kit... it's ridiculously easy to use, and ridiculously inexpensive!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 9 Mar 2006
By A Customer
I bought this as a gift for someone with a large collection of VHS tapes and it's been a big disappointment. Fine recording pre recorded tapes but won't read or record home made tapes. Long play function on the DVD doesn't work either. Finally, I'm told they play the common trick with 'multi region DVDs' - it doesn't actually play DVDs from the US or Australia, only DVDs which call themselves multi region. A cheat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Poduct 4 Sep 2005
By Bryso
I got this machine last Thursday and so far everything has worked perfectly, including the enclosed disk. The quality is amazing even using 4hr record on the DVD. Gill, since this machine hasn't got a freeview tuner you will not be able to tune in freeview channels. I have a freeview box and the only way I can record freeview channels is to set the Daewoo to AV1 and record manually the freeview station I'm watching at the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 25 Jun 2005
Did not buy this from Amazon but from riptons which was 30 cheaper at the time, but has gone up slightly now. Away this is a great product, I have just set it all up and tried it out with the Ricoh DVD+RW disc that came with it, recorded from TV, copied a DVD and also recorded from my camcorder via dv. Works great but do read the instructions and follow them with regards to connections. I have a cable decoder (2 scarts) and my TV has 2 scarts, and it is quite important which scart lead goes in to scart1 and which goes into scart2.

1.0 out of 5 stars nice machine, but it doesn't work 26 Jun 2006
By Chris
I went through two of these machines (Amazon was *great* about replacing them, btw). The first worked fine--and it is, when it works, a great machine--but it began to eat all videos placed in it after about a week (the only way to release them was to switch off at the mains). A replacement machine did exactly the same thing from the minute I set it up. New firmware from Daewoo (who were very efficient in sending it off) didn't help. My suspicion is that the machine can't cope with pre-recorded videos as soon as you set it up to record a DVD (that's when all the problems begin) but there is no way to fix it once it's begun to act up (covering the record-protection tab on the video doesn't help either). I bought this machine hoping the negative views were from people who had much earlier versions of the firmware, but Daewoo has yet to make this product work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 29 July 2005
I wanted to record my old home videos onto DVD, but I already have a decent DVD player, so looked for a cheap combi set to do this task. Only bought it at the weekend, but totally amazed at how easy it is to copy and impressed with quality. Just have to work out now how to record my freeview as it has only recognised analogue tv? Any ideas?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 26 Nov 2005

Excellent product, within half an hour of opening the box I had set the machine up and did a few practise recordings, with great results including recording from sky , Later I tried the copy to DVD plus Copy to VHS and tried the video plus function. its such an easy to use machine, Plus its also able to read previously bought DVD+R/RW which my last DVD recorder did not recognise,( they were gathering dust) WELL DONE DAEWOO and thanks you Amazon for your swift delivery service and low price. This machine is between £50-£70 cheaper than most retailers, I certainly recommend the purchase of this machine from Amazon, I am a grandmother coming to terms with modern technology, If I can do the set up so can you

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Excellent 27 Nov 2005
Verified Purchase
This is my first piece of Daewoo equipment, so I was a bit unsure of what to expect - especially at the price. All I can say is that I am very, very impressed. The build quality is excellent and the features/capabilities are very comprehensive. The Quick Start Guide and the User Manual are easy to understand, but if you are new to this technology I would recommend that you spend a bit of time reading the manual cover to cover before you start recording in order to get a full overview. Having done this, I found that once I started recording, I very soon got the hang of it. I thoroughly recommend this machine.
