Pleasantly surprised 7 Aug 2011
By Jonathan K. Perkins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I hadn't actually read any of the "For Dummies" series before, and I have to admit that I agreed to read this one with a little trepidation. I had been given another "pregnancy for dads" type book before, and it was patronizing and condescending, at least theoretically in the name of humor. I thought it likely that a book which sells itself as being "for Dummies" up front might take that same tone. Fortunately, it did not.

The timing of this read was perfect for me, as my wife was pregnant with our first child. I did my best to read the book in relevant real-time, i.e. following along at the same pace as the pregnancy itself. I enjoyed the book, and found it useful and accurate (if not exactly fascinating).

Throughout the pregnancy, the recurring advice we received was that there is really nothing you can do to prepare for such a life change. I took this to heart, accepted it as true, and tried not to underestimate the upheaval. It turned out to be true, of course--you cannot really understand how things will be until you've experienced them. This book was an excellent way to understand some of the details of pregnancy, childbirth, and life with a baby. It won't enthrall you like the latest fiction bestseller, but it will probably keep you interested, and learning.

Fun, informative & not gimmicky! 27 Nov 2010
By N's Mom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was very impressed with this book and so was my husband -- it is mixes fun-to-read prepping for baby & partner support ideas with basic, need-to-know medical info -- AND it does one of my favorite things, which is to avoid low-bar stereotypes of men and instead assumes that men want to be capable, involved parents. It's filled with good ideas and is often quite funny. This is a surprisingly great guide for new dads, repeat dads, or even any parent-to-be in general.

Awesome guide to pregnancy just for Dad's! 21 April 2011
By Hoppaguy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I am a guy and we are thinking about having children soon and I thought I'd read this book to get a feel for what to expect. I know there are a lot of books but most of them seem to focus more on what a mother has to do or they have a very small "Dad" section. That's why I found the title of this book to be interesting since it was for Dad's! As with most "for Dummies" books, it is very easy to read and easy to pick what particular subject you want to look into. I think the best part of the book is the section on how to be the best partner for your wife after birth. I am glad that I read this because as a Dad I know would tend to focus all of my energy on the newborn child that you kind of forget that your wife needs emotional support also. The book goes into so many different subjects that I will definitely have to re-read different parts such as how to handle medical emergencies and what to expect during labor and delivery. This book is so informative that I have told all of my guy friends to buy this book before they even think about trying for kids!
