I bought this 11 CD set for a relation of mine who, it seems, has the gravest of misgivings about this new 'Dad's Army' film they're making; and who, it seemed, was determined to bore the pants off the rest of us by going on and on and on about it. What better way to bring his blood pressure down, thought I, than to send for 'Dad's Army: The Complete Radio Series One'?

He's a bit technologically challenged, so I felt obliged to 'test out' one or two aspects of the thing before I gave it to him. I'm sure it's not quite the sort of gift-giving etiquette that Debrett's would put their name too but, then again, there really wasn't any other way for me to find out what was even on these eleven hours' worth of discs. The product description here seems to hold with the notion that 'careless talk might cost a sale', and the box the discs come in is reluctant to go into too many details either.

There are twenty regular episodes, all recorded in 1973 for broadcast the following year, plus an hour-long 1974 Christmas Special. And, if you won't tell anyone, then I'll tell you what their names are. Deal? Righto!

1. The Man and the Hour
2. Museum Piece
3. Command Decision
4. Enemy Within the Gates
5. The Battle of Godfrey's Cottage
6. The Armoured Might of L/Cpl Jones
7. Sergeant Wilson's Little Secret
8. A Stripe for Frazer
9. Operation Kilt

16. The Bullet is Not For Firing
17. Room at the Bottom

Really iconic and loveable series, as based close to fact "as verified by my late father in law who served in the home guard".

I now own all three series. (Sad or what?
