African-American gospel auteur Tyler Perry leaves behind his over-the-top Madea persona (the driving force of his previous movies Diary of Mad Black Woman and Madea's Family Reunion) to craft a more subdued--yet more emotionally compelling--story. Monty (Idris Elba, The Wire) has been the sole support of his three daughters, but when his ex returns to try to claim them, he can't afford the legal counsel to fight her--until he crosses paths with Julia (Gabrielle Union, Bring It On, Deliver Us from Eva), a lawyer whose successful career hasn't helped her be successful in love. The story of Daddy's Little Girls doesn't hold a lot of surprises; the romance between these two will be bumpy while implausible but necessary-to-the-plot factors keep them from resolving their conflicts until the last moment. But what is surprising--after the grandstanding histrionics of the Madea movies--is how Perry has guided his topnotch actors to rock-solid performances that quietly draw you in. Though the plot twists smack of melodrama, the actors make each scene seem real. The strong supporting cast includes Louis Gosset Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman) and Tasha Smith, who gives an unflinching and unsettling performance as Monty's ex, who decides to teach her daughters the harshest lessons life has to offer. --Bret Fetzer
DVD Description
A mechanic (Idris Elba: Thor, The Wire) enlists the help of a successful-but-lonely attorney (Gabrielle Union: Bad Boys II) while trying to gain custody of his three daughters from his treacherous ex-wife and her larcenous boy friend. Along the way, the working relationship between the blue collar dad and his uptown attorney grows into something more. This is a simple, touching story of two people trying to overcome their different backgrounds to find love, a down-on-his-luck man struggling to protect his children from abuse and neglect, and a community looking to purge itself from the criminals terrorising their neighbourhood.

This film is okay, it has a lot of clichés but i quite liked it. The storyline (without giving anything away) is basically a career woman meets a man who is beneath her socially i.e she is a lawyer, he is a mechanic, but she likes him anyway.
There are some sub plots eg, baby momma drama, drug dealers, but i just think this film never really gets off the ground and then ends too quickly. The acting is pretty good and you do get to know and like some of the characters but i think the storyline could have been beefed up a bit more.
The film is a typical romatic comedy and does have lots of funny moments especially the one liners from the little girls. I would recommend it, its corny and you know whats gonna happen in the end but its still worth watching and gabrielle Union is good in this too.

I like Tyler Perry - ever since I saw 'Why Did I Get Married?' (the play version and then the film with Janet Jackson) - I wanted to see Daddy's Little Girls. I ordered it, and the day it arrived I sat down with my two eldest daughters to watch it.
It made me cry, it made me laugh, and it made me happy. Yes, it was corny and cliched. Yes, it ended too soon. And some of the characters were definitely only 2 dimensional.
But for all of that, I felt it was a film that showed that black men love their kids too, can be there for them, and that love should not depend on your income or status.
Heartily recommend.
P.S. Idris Elba is seriously FINE!!!!

This is a nice feel good film to watch, even though, the outcome is predictable. Gabrielle Union and Idris Elba are perfect for the roles they portrait.

heartwarming tear jerker
I love this movie. Tyler Perry does it again! curl up on the sofa with a box of kleenex for a heartwarming story where the ordinary Joe wins in the end.

Average and predictable
This movie is typical of all Tyler Perry movies...being very average and predictable. I wouldn't call it great and probably wouldn't watch it again.
