Product Description

Re-edited January 20, 2012

My father was my best friend until I was 10 years old. Thereafter, he was my worst enemy. A tough-as-nails father who firmly enforces his old-fashioned ways, a mother who has little or no say, and a son with a penchant for getting into misadventures.
The boy tries to convince his parents that something is wrong with him, and he is really physically ill. He suffers through three years of humiliation, agony, and punishment from the school and his father. They misjudge him almost costing him his life.

The parents get a divorce. The mother and brothers move back to Wisconsin from Texas. They found themselves in an all-black housing project, being the only whites there for almost four years. He grows up quick and learns that life isn't as simple as black and white.

When he turns 18, he decides to move back to Texas in a small country town with his father and new mother. He hasn't seen or talked to his father in almost four years. Things fall apart fast. The young man and his younger brother end up out on the streets being homeless for two months and encounters unpredictable adventures.

A raw, uncut true story.

Thought Provoking 25 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Once I downloaded this book I couldn't put my kindle down until I had finished reading it.
Although I found the book harrowing at times, I admire the authors sense of humour which I suspect is what kept him going when things got really rough.
I think the author is an extremely courageous human being to overcome such unfair odds and then be brave enough to share his story in such a transparent and honest fashion.
The change in their fathers behaviour must have been terrifying for those poor kids and made me wonder how something as ordinary as a house move could result in such devastation to one family, destroying their lives almost overnight!
I loved this book and personally had no real issues around editing, I felt every moment of the authors experience.
If you like factual reading this is for you. Matt Gables story is a big slice of real life.

Unusual book. I am not a fan of abuse books, but this book did a surprising twist and turned into an action and an adventure from the middle to the end. It was fun to read.

The storyline is good 26 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
As a biographer and author I like real life tales. This one is good and makes real life stranger than fiction as usual. The editing needs work but on the whole a good read. Lapping it up, an ordinary woman, who lived an extraordinary life. (Soft Target Series)

Daddy Knows Best
This was the first book I read on my Kindle. Don't let the beginning fool you, the entire tone of the book begins to change, and it will keep you pulled in. Read more

Wasn't at all what I expected. Read through to end hoping it would get better :-) Maybe I should have looked at sample first.

Very far fetched
The spelling mistakes didn't bother me to much or the way it jumped from one thing to another with no flow to the story. Read more

Ridiculous
Utterly disappointing. This 'book' is disjointed, badly written and badly edited. The plot has no story and quite frankly just keeps going over the same ground. Read more

Hmmmm
I have felt unable to finish this book.

Maybe it gets better, but I feel it lacks focus, flits from one thing to another and is pretty mundane. Read more
