Amazon.co.uk Review

There are some good laughs to be found in Daddy Day Care, especially if you're a pre-schooler with energy to burn. This romper-room comedy shamelessly exploits its high concept idea--dropping Eddie Murphy into a seething den of rugrats--but kids will have plenty of vicarious fun as Murphy and his fellow laid-off colleague (Jeff Garlin) battle unemployment by opening a day-care centre in Eddie's home. In partial Witches mode, Anjelica Huston hams it up as a day-care competitor bent on closing Eddie down, while doofus extraordinaire Steve Zahn is recruited as a third partner in "Daddy Day Care", trying his best to entertain a pack of hyperactive kids who've stopped taking their Ritalin. Zahn makes a funny Star Trek fan (even when the script contains bogus Trekkie trivia), and Murphy deserves credit for giving his all in a comedy that mostly squanders his talent. --Jeff Shannon

3.0 out of 5 stars A few laughs, but not for all, 17 April 2004

Eddie Murphy is still funny, and this film does have some laughs, however they are not one after another as most of his other films are.
It is predictable, but funny, and is one the kids will enjoy watching, if not you. There are funny moments and it is a good film and fun to watch, though you must suspend all intelligant thought.
If you have kids they will love it, do not buy it for an adults movie to watch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special, 29 Nov 2010
By
AngusJ "AJ" (North Yorkshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Daddy Day Care [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
This movie is an enjoyable one, no doubt about it, you find at times you do have a giggle at the ever ridiculous Eddie Murphy and yet more of his crazy plots - but this film was built up to far more than it could possibly achieve. There is no point in the film that has you rolling around on the floor in a fit of laughter, and to be frank that aren't enough laughter points for the movie to stand out as anything special. I would advise you try something else, Little Man for example. Amazon might offer it to you cheap, but for what you'll get out of the experience - unless you are given it for free it probably isn't worth it...
