Huge Waste of money! 13 Dec 2011
Some features don't work at all.
The ones that work only do so intermittently.
Crashes more often than it works.
Picture quality is mediocre at best.
Software is flakey as my 6500A but works less often.

Avoid for at least 6 months until they get their act together and actually release a finished product.
Then read reviews to see if they made it actually work better than an expensive paperweight.

Garbage, Garbage, Garbage.

I bought this media player as a replacement for an older model I purchased about 3 years ago. I had been having some trouble playing certain files lately and also I wanted to get a new model to get faster processing and quicker access to my network movie folder. For these reasons I bought the Xroid a1. On paper is looked like a great product - versatile and future proof since it uses Android OS similar to a smartphone. Having owned Tvix products before I knew that there might be some issues with firmware etc at first but I could never have guessed how bad this product really is. To be honest, I'm shocked that DVICO has made the decision to release this model on the market as it is clearly not tested!

To cut it short - I have used the Xroid a1 for less than a week and it has refused to play at least 7 different titles THAT MY OLD PLAYER CAN PLAY JUST FINE! They are all standard .avi or DVD .iso's and should work in anything that's marketed as a "media player". After a 30 second wait the Xroid simply says "This file can not be played" and that's it. Try rebooting etc - still the same result. Trying to get in touch with DVICO/Tvix customer service or support is another issue - there is no email address given on their site. Your only option as a customer is to register and file a question through their FAQ-page. As I am writing this, the "write"-button (= send) on the Tvix site FAQ form has been deactivated so after typing your question there's no way to send it - great!

With all the different media players out there, the Xroid fails on even the basics and I can't recommend it to anyone. Actually, I'm only writing this review to warn other people looking for a media player so that they'll hopefully end up with a better choice.

Waiting for firmware updates so I can watch media from my media player... 8 Feb 2012
By Joshua Gross - Published on Amazon.com
I can relate to the previous review. That user shares my story verbatim. I had the Tvix Slim with no issues and wanted to upgrade to the xroid.

It won't play some files that my slim played no problem. I have once again had to hook up my computer to my living room system to watch some files. The main reason I bought a TVIX is so I would have to hook up my pc to my home theater.

Another issue is no built in wireless. I ordered the usb wireless adapter and they took my money over a month ago but it still has not shown up. It is on back order.

I've installed 2 firmware updates since I received this unit and still no luck playing some files that my older tvix could play. "Sorry, this video cannot be played"

Complete Waste of Money - Do Not Buy! 26 May 2012
By H. Edwards - Published on Amazon.com
I've owned 4 media players before including a DVICO. Like the others I wanted to upgrade to play newer video formats.

This unit is a huge step backwards in media players:
Does not support network connection to shared drives on a PC.
Requires a two year old program to connect to up to 4 shared locations (I could only get one to work my 4 year old DVICO could handle all 4) Worse the delete button to change the IP address from 0.0.0.0 does not work so unless your numbers end with 0 bad luck.
You need to manually change the audio settings to play a stereo versus multi channel playback (yes really!). What they describe as passthrough is not.
Did not recognise a USB 3 portable hard drive in either the USB 2 or USB 3 slots.
Did recognise a USB 3 Thumb Drive.
No customer support from DVICO (so far)

When someone buys a media player they really expect only two things. The ability to play media from devices like USB drives and in the modern age a simple reliable network connection to their computer to be able to play from there. They also want this to cover all the latest formats.

This device fails in almost all respects.
It supports less formats than my older DVICO and the A.C. Ryan device I was expecting to replace.
It does not recognise all plug in drives.
It does not connect easily to my computer (and loses the connection after a period of time)

There is only one positive point I can make about this device is that the video playback, when it works, is of high quality.

What I can't understand is why any company would release a product with so many obvious faults. Even the smallest amount of testing would have revealed that it was not ready for release into the consumer marketplace.
