Ignorantly purchased this item, plugged in my monitor... nothing. PC could recognise the monitor but couldn't display to it. I thought it might have been a faulty cable or adapter but after actually looking at the wiring of the cables and doing some research online I discovered that a DVI-D to VGA adapter is impossible.

VGA monitors take an analog input; DVI-D is a digital output. DVI-I or DVI-A have 4 extra pins that are specifically for the purpose of transmitting an analog signal, hence you can use a DVI-VGA adapter with those port types. DVI-D does not have those pins (hence 25 pin rather than 29 pin) and therefore cannot transmit an analog signal.

If you have a VGA monitor and DVI-D out port on your graphics card or projector then you need to get an actual digital-analog converter, not just an adapter.

There is no way to convert DVI-D to VGA because there are no analog pins on the DVI-D(digital) port there

Item arrived quicker than expected but it didn't work. I replaced it with something from another manufacturer and this worked fine so it was probably an internal construction issue. At this cost I couldn't be bothered going through the replacement process but BE WARNED when ordering goods with no postage from China - naïve of me really and should have known better!

Advertised as a divi to VGA adapter but does not provide any VGA signal out and lacks the relevant pins to do the job at all. Completely misleading and totally useless.

Like a few people, I ignorantly bought this thinking it would connect a VGA monitor to the DVI-D output on my new graphics card. It didn't work, and after 1 minute of quick research, I discovered it was never going to work. I don't exactly know what the purpose of this product is to be honest, seems pointless, but if you want to connect a VGA monitor up to a DVI-D output then what you need is an ACTIVE ADAPTER, you can pick one up for cheap no problem. I had to buy one anyway and now I have my monitor back, after a week of waiting. Irritating, yes, but this was relatively inexpensive mistake and would be more hassle than it's worth to get a refund so I'll let it slide, but I'm putting this here so people don't fall into the same trap I did. Do not buy this, just don't!

This product was cheap and looked right, but just didn't work for a PC Monitor, I'm afraid. I had to buy an Active adapter..

The fact that the 2 pins either side of the narrow flat pin, which send the analogue signal are not present means this will never work. In order to get a digital signal to VGA you need an active digital converter, which this isn't. Only after a bit of digging on Google did I find this out. I have no idea why this product is even manufactured, maybe someone on here can explain?

....if only I read the reviews below!!!
