DVD Delirium volume 3 is described as the guide to weird & wonderful films on DVD but this is not entirely true - the book also covers what I would term mainstream films, such as AIRPLANE !, the wonderful Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series, Pirates of the Caribbean (already!) to name but a few ! What is awesome is the wealth of information regarding the many different versions of films that have been released in other countries and recommendations of the authors as to the best version to look for. It's always annoying to shell out for a movie you've wanted for ages only to find that the DVD is not that good after all - if you use this book as reference guide you really shouldn't go wrong as the reviews are honest and not all are eulogic ! I thought I knew a bit about films but now I concede that I am an ignoramus - how many people knew that, for example, the Swiss release of Barbed wire dolls is the best version & that the Russian version of Beyond Reanimator is longer than any others?! How these guys acquired their information is beyond me - the book is over 600 pages & reviews almost 2000 DVD's ! One can only think that they are eccentric millionaires or have received promo copies of the movies - as for us humbler mortals we can but sift through the yards of information, decide what we want & then start trawling the Internet ! Thanks to all involved for this invaluable book without which I should probably have made some regrettable mistakes - armed with all the knowledge contained in DVD 3 the collector can now make sensible choices & avoid regrets !
Notable exceptions in the listings are 2 of my personal favourites - Night of the comet & Night of the creeps but, who knows, by the time DVD Delirium 4 comes out these 2 plus many others will probably be reviewed with all the different versions / audio commentaries / deleted scenes ...excuse me, I'm off to dream now !
