This collection of short Barbapapa films takes a turn for the worse. Maybe the animators were just running out of ideas? Whereas the earlier cartoons feature a lovable family doing cute things, they seem to have been transformed into an ersatz family of shape-shifter heroes, and it simply doesn't work very well.

A common factor in many of the films is a succession of foolish, evil humans. Trappers, matadors, gunslingers, hunters and so on, all out to wreak havoc... until Barbapapa and co. stop them. The production values are the same as before, but the stories simply aren't as good. There's masses of exposition (if you bought these to learn German, you'd better be good already...) and less animated novelty than we've come to expect. Some episodes are good, but overall, it's not a patch on the first collection.

Any why, oh why, have they put the Barbapapa children in silly hats? Probably buy only if you've really GOT to own everything Barbapapa.
