I have one of these I bought it from eBay. I use it for easy access to hard drives from faulty PC's or to get data off in order to clean a PC or laptop. The card reader is a nice addition and the USB 2.0 is quick, although it really does depend on the device in use as to how quick read and writes are.

Ok on to the negative...
eSata hmmm! I have yet to get this to work through this device, I think its a power issue, the reason I say this is because, I have the Gigabyte X58 UD4P rev1.0 motherboard this has an eSata back panel with two eSata ports that are connected to two sata ports on the motherboard especially for the eSata back plate. As part of the back plate it also has a power output in the form of a Molex socket, you get a Molex to two sata power connectors so u can power a Sata device externally.

Via the eSata back plate I can use and see a Sata device, but if I use this device, it doesn't show up in my computer. The adapter appears to be powerful enough to supply power but it fails.

I have tried this with several different units and none work on eSata.

I would recommend you look into USB 3.0 as a better connection option over eSata.

It's a bit plastic so be careful you don't break it.
All the cables and leads were self explanatory. 2 minutes from start to finish.

ONE COMMENT though... the molinex power-in from the device is on a small slider which is accessed from the underside only. No-one saw fit to highlight this on the nasty single page literature sheet or by applying anything remotely visible to the underside of the device; just a friendly heads up. The holder is a thin plastic shell so don't be forcing it when an old IDE drive fails to fit into what is quite obviously the correct slot. After that the device works just like a massive USB key, taking IDE or SATA drives (tested with 40/80/400G IDE, 500G and 1T SATA drives, haven't tried the laptop HDD option or the interesting selection of external connectors yet).

Definitely in the "value for money" category.

Like another reviewer, i bought one of these off Ebay. Thinking it was a great bit of kit, and a useful addition to my PC (i have about 4 hard drives) i purchased one, with the SD card reader attached to it.

However after 1 week, the card reader part, failed. i promptly emailed the seller, to said that he would send me out a new one (not even asking for the old one back) which i was quite happy about. So i received the next one, and that worked. till about a month later. Its has now failed with the same problem. (card reader not working) instead it continues to disconnect and reconnect on my pc, causing windows 7 to play that darned trumpet sound. Rather annoying.

Additionally, the hard drive component has just now failed. So now at least one is rendered useless!!

My advice, don't buy one of these. I've had two and they are crap.

Great item but dangerous lead!!!1
First of all I will explain the 3 stars. This particular docking system gets 3 due to the faulty lead that has broken after very little use. It is actually snapped almost in half! Read more

Does what it says on the box
Despite some fairly negative reviews I decided to order this anyway. Yes, it is plastic. Yes, it does feel flimsy. However, it does what it claims to do. Read more

Great iten, handy for HD connection needs
This unit works great. Of note:

* There was no eSATA Cable included -- not a big issue for me
* The unit has one SATA connector and on IDE connector. Read more

Does not work with IDE drives
Hi

Firstly, the SATA port is not supported for use with an IDE drive, only with a SATA disk. Not a problem so long as you know. Read more
