Product Description

The Grid are Dave Ball and Richard Norris. They formed in 1988 at the height of Acid House, releasing as their first single, the Balearic classic 'Floatation', in 1990, before notching up a string of increasingly successful albums -'Electric Head', '456', 'Evolver', 'Music For Dancing' - and ten hit singles, including 'Crystal Clear, 'Rollercoaster' 'Texas Cowboys' and the million selling 'Swamp Thing'. The band toured worldwide and remixed and produced numerous artists including Brian Eno, Pet Shop Boys, Happy Mondays and many more.
After a break in the nineties, the Grid reformed in 2004, playing their first gig in a decade in 2006 at the Coronet in London. "DOPPELGANGER" is their first album since 1995, and features the trademark Grid sound - sweeping, atmospheric electronics and hook laden melodies, fast forwarding into the future. A welcome return.

I was surprised more than most people of the return of the grid but I am really really pleased that they have! Their first proper album for 14 years....now that is normally a worry....but dont be. It is well worth your pennies. I have been a 'fan' of the grid since 'electric head' in 1990. when that album came out I really felt that something new was coming. I wasn't wrong. It was an amazing album and it is still one of the highlights of my rather large collection of electronic music. This album is not on the same level but it has a caliber all the same. The album is in two sections. The first half is hard and techno-ish. It sounds like one of laurent garner sets. The second half, the better half, i might add, is fantastic and is what the grid were always good at. It is full of chill out vibes which stay with you the whole day, well worth a listen!

There are not many bands \ artists that make music in this genre with the idea of making art. I always loved the idea since Cabaret Voltaire and few rare others. This album is full of 90's acid house / new beat gestures but in an up-to-date framework. The text are smart and funny. Love it.

OMG! They're back! 13 April 2008

I cannot believe they have a new CD. Their previous discs, 456-Evolver-Electric Head - Music for Dancing - are all faves. This is great as well. Kind of Grid meets Man Parrish. Cheaper on Itunes and a great surprise. Must have for true electronica fans!
Grid, The - Doppelgänger 16 May 2011
By scoundrel - Published on Amazon.com

After a 10+ year hiatus, The Grid finally returns with DOPPELGANGER, which sees them moving away from their catching tech-pop for more pure techno. "8 Miles from Memphis" hints a little at their huge hit "Swamp Thing," with a country-gospel feel amongst the rough electronics. "Vibration" wobbles accordingly, but I'm struck overall at how "old school" the album feels, as if The Grid hasn't noticed all the changes that's happened to the genre in their absence. So despite the glistening groove of "Pure Statik," the album somehow sounds dated. "Mighty Heroik" and "Saturday" take the tempo down some, and "Closer" is so pretty that if you don't start smiling, you're dead. The beats come back with a vengeance in "Three Floors Above You," but "Fools Rush In" and "Be Here With You" float back out on a mellow note. Sounding behind the times isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you have to hand it to the Grid boys for sticking to their guns.
