Product Description

Don't Look Back in Anger As an 8 year old boy Carl Spiers witnessed his first football hooliganism at Stockport in 1969. It was a seminal moment in his life and sparked an obsession with violence. For the next 15 years he progressed from onlooker to teenage boot boy to gang leader and eventually became one of Oldham's top 'lads' in the late 70's/early 1980's. This roller-coaster ride took him up and down the country clash... Full description

Format: Paperback
When i bought Carl's book i was expecting to read more or less the football violence that was the norm back in the 70s and indeed the fans clashes that carl write's about are excitingly brought to life. but carl starts is story about how he first saw all this action take place when he was only 10 yrs old, and how it was to influence him and excite him into wanting to be a part of the action. I can identify to that excitment cos in a way even though i was older than carl the action on the terraces hooked me the same way. Carl has a unique way of taking you into his world as a ten year old boy and describing his feelings of going shopping with his mam on a saturday match day in the morning and yearning for it to finish so he cud join his older brother..but not that much older and them both going to the game together, and there at a safe distance look on as the fighting erupted. Not only does he write about the football violence but also the time when he went to his local youth club, under age you had to be 12yr to get in .he lied on the form about his age and was admitted. This book is a must read and many will relate to Carl's experence and emotions as you read it. This story his brutually honest and cleverly written, a book that just has you turning the pages to read more. Well dun Carl you had me rivited to this book. Dont believe me, then i say buy it and you will see ..its a must read
