Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The DMR 300 is a beautifully crafted piece of technology. Its build quality is second none with a perfectly finished smooth, metal feeling plastic body, centered with a chrome sandwich containing the player's buttons. The buttons are highly responsive and have a great feel. The player is tiny, smaller than a pack of cards (7.2cm, 5cm, 1.8cm) Although the player is perhaps understated but minimalist in design, its features are outstanding. It can record WMA files directly. Meaning that you don't even need a PC to use the player, for example you can just connect the DMR 300 to a CD player via the supplied cable and encode your music into WMA files.

The DMR 300 even puts the gaps between the tracks if you want them! As well as direct WMA encoding at a variety of bitrates, the DMR 300 has a powerful microphone and a large easy to use backlit display. The sound quality is excellent, especially with a good pair of headphones. The inline remote control also makes using the DMR 300 a breeze while jogging. It has to be the easiest MP3 player to set up. Just insert the installation CD, install the software and you're good to go. The USB transfer is blistering (around 4 seconds per average 4MB MP3 files) and the software lets you know about everything it is doing.

The player comes with 128MB of internal memory which will hold about 5 or 6 CDs of music at 64kbps or about 30 or 40 songs at higher quality settings. The DMR 300 also has a MMC or SD slot for easy memory expansion.

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked out the box, 12 Mar 2003
These days for something to work out of the box is something quite rare, but it did. Out the batteries in, hooked up the line in cable to my PC ( I was at work so couldn't install the SW) and recorded music straight away. Play back was good no obvious distortion from an analogue recording. The software installed no problem, plug in the USB cable and the device was instantly recognised and I was able to copy some pre-ripped mp3's, it was all very simple.

The only bug bear is that the manager software does not have an mp3 ripper so you have to create mp3 or wma's using a different program, not a major problem as there are enough tools around to do this...

In summary it lives up to the manufacturers claims and I can't fault it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it!, 11 April 2003
By A Customer
The new gizmo arrived very promptly and was up and running very quickly. A niggle is that Windows Media Player doesn't seem to recognise it as a portable device but that may just be my computer. It's very light and portable and I used it at the gym with no disturbance to the music. It is supposed to record from a normal stereo system but I have yet to try this out yet. The headphone quality seems to be fine to my ears, and really th whole thing seemed remarkably simple to set up. Supplied software allows you to download off the PC in usual drag and drop fashion - ready to get music on the move. I think an enhancement would be some kind of a clip for those of us who often find themselves without pockets, as it does tend to fly around if you run with it just on the neck strap!

Great MP3/WMA player once I got the software to work!
The DMR drivers seem to conflict with my previous MP3 player's drivers. Read more
