Product Description

Following the launch of the new extruded wallnuts size 7 to 11 last year DMM have gone one step further and anodised them for easier recognition. Also, understanding the climbers preference to mix and match they have ensured that the new Wallnut colours mirror Sister company Wild Country's Rock colours size for size, thereby making the climbers life easier. After all the ultimate goal is to make the climber's life as simple as possible allowing you to concentrate more fully on the climbing itself. Hot forged smaller sizes 1-6. Colour compatibility with other brands.

Let's not mince our words here. DMM have raised the bar with climbing gear to a level that is the envy of climbing equipment manufacturers the world over. They put a lot of thought into their products and this, coupled with excellent and innovative manufacturing standards, has thrown the bar up to a ridiculously high standard.

Here they put their attentions to good use with the Wallnuts. These are a couple of generations ahead of the nuts of old. The set is colour coded and numbered, from the miniscule 1 up to the almighty 11.

The anodising is good and the shape of the nuts is very cunning, think a banana with inside and outside curve (only a bit more subtle curvature) and some nice notching nicked out of the faces to offer more placement options in cracks that are less than uniform in shape.

The larger sizes (7-11) are cut from bar to save weight and Wallnuts attain their full breaking strain of 12kn from size 4 upwards. Sizes 1,2 and 3 are rated at 7, 9 and 11kn respectively.

So, all sizes offer realistic and usable protection strength but how do they stand up to real world usage.

Okay, I was out toproping a couple of days ago and set up an anchor system above a wickedly overhanging 12 metre cliff face. Protection at the top of the face was scarce and we found a marginal crack on the flat ledge atop the face about five or six metre back from the edge. We threw in a few wallnuts (along with DMM Torque nuts) and clove-hitched the lot together. This was a bit of to the side of our intended route so we searched for a crack to the other side to equalise the system. This wasn't to take much strain, rather to stop the falling climber from swinging too far to the side.
