Format: Paperback
This 160+-page book is a colourful and informative guide to the attractions of the island of Mallorca; for real visitors and armchair travellers alike. It has all the usual features, including excellent maps, articles and phrase book. There are excellent colour photos breaking up the text columns, so you can see what you are looking for. It is a handy up-to-date guidebook, with all the usual topics a tourist guide provides, as well as chapters on the top ten sites (Sa Seu - Palma Cathedral, Castell de Bellver, Fundacio Pilar i Joan Mire, La Granja, Valldemossa, Jardins d’Alfabia, Monestir de Nostra Senyora de Lluc, Peninsula de Formentor, Alcudia, and the Coves del Drac).

Please note that this is a POCKET guide to the HIGHLIGHTS of the area, and not an in-depth study of everything to be found there. For that, you need a full-sized guide.

The Contents include -
P006: Mallorca’s Top 10
P086: Around the Island
P128: Streetsmart
P140: Places to Stay
P148: General Index
P158: Phrase Book

Spectacularly unhelpful, and out of date. Despite being issued "with revisions" in 2009, it still misses one of the best kids attractions on the island, the Palma Aquarium (opened 2007); and recommends a trip to the island of Cabrebra for families; well, only if your kids like hiking up hills and playing on about 10 cms of seaweedy beach, and are hardy sailors - the crossing is rough. It also recommended the train and tram in Soller, without commenting on the fact they are very expensive and standing room only -again, not ideal for small children. Oh, and the front map mentions the "auto-safari" - which is on Born Free's Zoo Watch's top 10 list of complained about zoos due to poor animal conditions. Not recommended.

HASH(0x93739b04) out of 5 stars Too simplistic 17 July 2012

The book is very simplistic (granted, it is very small). It tries to compile tens of list of the ten best (restaurants in the north, beaches in the south, hotels here an there) and it spreads itself very thin. It is suitable for the most casual of travelers that like to go by lists. There is no appreciation for the inmense diversity of the island. Having been born there, although living in the USA, and visiting frequently, can tell you that its usefulness is rather limited (bought the book for a companion). Not at the level of the DK books. You would be better off with their complete guide DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Mallorca, Menorca & Ibiza [Paperback), although much heavier lo take around.

I have traveled to over 3 dozen countries both in the military and now after my 20 years in the Navy. Every port we visited was enhanced by this book series. My wife loves them now as we visit more places. Fits well in your pocket, has realistic agendas, and great maps. I personally used this city book on vacation and give it 5 stars.

It for sure has all the highlights you need to see for traveling to Spain and to see and explore Mallorca. For sure one f my favorite islands in Spain. Iz comes with a very detailed map, which might come in handy, when you rent a car, bike o get around.

HASH(0x938d73b4) out of 5 stars DK and Mallorca 20 Oct. 2009
By Liz Karnicki - Published on

Mallorca is much more than an island off the coast of Spain. DK Top 10 Mallorca gave detail descriptions and visuals of the place the Moors occupied until the Christians redid everything in its site. Mallorca was the 40 year residence of artist Joan Miro. His studio walls are intact and have original "first scribbles" on them. Valldemossa was made famous by George Sand and Frederic Chopin. Even Michael Douglas shares his villa with his ex wife..... Its natural beauty is breathtaking.DK Top 10 Mallorca Travel Guide taught me this and much more.
