Product Description

Sardinia, one of the great prizes of the Mediterranean, was fought over by the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Spanish and Austrians before ending up as part of the unified Italy. It bears traces of all these cultures - plus thousands of prehistoric stone dwellings called nuraghi. These days it is equally popular with the jet set and with rock climbers, sailers and wind-surfers. With so much going on, you need a detailed guide, and the Eyewitness Travel Guide provides everything you could wish for, from hotel and restaurant recommendations to detailed maps and tips on the best local cheeses. You’ll find cutaways and floor-plans of all the major sights, walks, scenic routes and thematic tours. Whether you wish to explore the beautiful old quarter at Alghero or soak-up some sun on the fashionable beaches of Costa Smeralda, this updated and expanded edition is indispensable.

The Eyewitness Travel Guides also offer a great, visual introduction to the countries under review. This edition is no different, providing an accurate and informative text and some stunning local photogpahy.

The key to this book is accessibility, allowing a quick and enticing overview of the island. Split into easy-to-reference geographical sections and featuring the right balance of 'fact & photo', this is the perfect introduction to a beautiful island and people. The strength of this book is the broad range of the geography it reviews.

This book is not detailed enough for those seeking a good range of hotel or dining recommendations (for backpacking etc), but that aside it offers a very readable and useful first step to gettign to know Sardinia.

Excellent 20 Mar 2009

This is great guide covering the whole of the island and if you have read any DK guide before is pretty much the same , ie divided into 5 different regions.

This an update of the 2005 guide nad includes new resorts and an up-to-date map of the roads ( not sure how helpful it is with the road signaling in Italy ).

The new pictures are of good quality and allows to decide your day trip better and also contains useful web links to different attractions.

The price reference is , sadly , accurate and most hotel and restaurant prices and unchanged.

In summary a well written and printed up to date guide of the Island with an attractive format.

Great book. 16 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
Very informative with lots of pictures unlike some other travel books. This one as it says shows you the places, food etc. This may not go into as much detail as other books but as I said before the pictures more than make up for this.
